Gastronomic festival of the Charentais snail in Saint-Claud
In Charente, the snail is affectionately called cagouille. This emblematic animal of the region is celebrated every year during the Fete de la Cagouille in Saint-Claud, a small town in northeastern Charente. Organized by the association Sports et Loisirs de Saint-Claud, this popular festival brings together locals and visitors around Charentais gastronomy and traditions.
On the last weekend of September, Saint-Claud buzzes to the rhythm of the Fete de la Cagouille. The program includes snail meals prepared according to the traditional Charentais recipe, a fast-food service, a mass followed by the distribution of blessed brioches, a meal enlivened by the orchestra Music Passion, a 'cagouille' mini-train for children, and a refreshment stand.
The Fete de la Cagouille also features an exhibition of vintage cars, concerts, and a raffle. The event is an opportunity to discover the culinary heritage of Charente in a warm and family-friendly atmosphere, in the heart of the Charente Limousine countryside.
The Fete de la Cagouille returns on the last weekend of September 2026 in Saint-Claud. The Sports et Loisirs association will offer the traditional program: snail meals, musical entertainment, a mini train, vintage car exhibition, mass, and blessed brioches.
Meal reservations can be made through the association.
The Fete de la Cagouille takes place in the village of Saint-Claud, 16450, in Charente (Nouvelle-Aquitaine).
