A medieval and musical weekend near the Basilica of Seclin
The Medieval Village in Music of Seclin is an original event that merges medieval culture and contemporary musical ambiance. Organized by the association Les Enfants de la Culture, this ephemeral festival transforms the surroundings of the Basilica Notre-Dame de Seclin into a giant medieval village of 40,000 m², alive with the sound of rock concerts and historical animations.
The festival site is designed as a true reconstructed medieval village, with a meticulous attention to detail that immerses visitors in an atmosphere of another time.
Historical reenactment groups set up their camps on site, showcasing daily life in the Middle Ages. Blacksmiths, weavers, potters, and other period artisans demonstrate their ancestral skills, allowing the public to understand medieval techniques and ways of life.
Sword fights, jousts, and martial demonstrations are among the highlights of the festival. Combat groups offer impressive shows, recreating medieval clashes with historical authenticity. These demonstrations, both spectacular and educational, fascinate young and old alike.
Street shows and processions animate the village throughout the day. Costumed characters, strolling musicians, and street artists create a lively and immersive atmosphere that transports visitors to another era.
The originality of the Medieval Village in Music lies in the contemporary musical dimension that accompanies the historical animations.
Rock concerts are scheduled in the evening, creating a striking and festive contrast between the medieval setting and electric sounds. This unexpected juxtaposition of past and present gives the festival a unique identity and attracts a diverse audience.
DJ sets take over in the late evening, transforming the medieval village into a contemporary party space. The musical atmosphere accompanies visitors late into the night, in a revisited medieval banquet atmosphere.
The village hosts a market with 50 exhibitors offering medieval crafts, artistic creations, local products, and collector's items. This market contributes to the festival's ambiance and allows visitors to leave with a unique souvenir of their visit.
The festival mobilizes 13 associations and 16 artists, including the artist Bertrand Devetter, creating a rich and varied program that combines heritage, live performance, and contemporary creation.
The Basilica Notre-Dame de Seclin, a 13th-century historical monument, provides a remarkable architectural setting for the festival. Its Gothic architecture serves as a majestic backdrop for medieval animations and concerts, adding an authentic heritage dimension to the event.
