The gourmet and traditional May 1st fair in Méobecq
Every May 1st, the village of Méobecq hosts its Asparagus Fair, a popular tradition that celebrates this emblematic vegetable of the Berry region. For over 30 years, this fair has brought together asparagus producers, professional and private antique dealers, showmen, and artisans in the village center. Visitors come to taste and buy fresh asparagus from local producers, browse the flea market, and enjoy festive entertainment and on-site catering.
Asparagus is an emblematic product of the Indre and Berry region. The sandy soils and temperate climate of the region offer ideal conditions for growing this delicate vegetable, harvested in spring. Every year, on May 1st, the village of Méobecq pays homage to local asparagus during its Asparagus Fair, a festive event that attracts visitors from all over the region.
The Méobecq Asparagus Fair was born from the desire of the Festival Committee to promote local asparagus production and liven up the village. Since its creation, the fair has continued to grow, becoming a must-attend event in the Indre region's calendar. More than 30 editions have already taken place, demonstrating the vitality of this popular tradition in the heart of Berry.
The heart of the fair is, of course, the sale of fresh asparagus by local producers. Visitors can directly purchase bunches of green and white asparagus, grown in the vicinity of Méobecq. Stands offering local products complete the gastronomic selection: cheeses, cured meats, honeys, jams, and other Berry specialties. On-site catering allows visitors to taste asparagus dishes prepared by the festival committee volunteers.
Alongside the gourmet market, a large flea market and garage sale sets up in the village streets. Dozens of antique dealers, professionals and individuals, offer furniture, trinkets, tableware, books, and collectibles. It's the perfect opportunity for bargain hunters to find treasures in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
The fair also offers entertainment for the whole family: funfair, children's rides, games, and various attractions. On-site catering with a refreshment stand allows visitors to extend their day in a festive atmosphere. It's a moment of conviviality and sharing that brings together the inhabitants of Méobecq and the surrounding areas to celebrate spring, the local region, and Berry traditions.
