The Carnival Fair: A Metz Winter Classic
Every year from February to March, the Metz Carnival Fair sets up on the Place de la République, transforming the city center into a space for family fun and festivities. For over a month, rides, skill games, and food stalls liven up winter days for Metz residents and visitors.
Around Forty Attractions
The fair offers about 40 varied attractions:
- 19 rides: trampolines, slides, fun houses, children's karts, flying chairs, inflatable structures, and bumper cars
- 16 skill games: duck fishing, stunt games, casino games, and claw machines
- 5 food stalls: crispy churros, soft crêpes, waffles, ice cream, and artisanal candies
A Family Event
The Carnival Fair is particularly popular with families. The rides are suitable for all ages, from the youngest with carousels and inflatable structures to the older ones with bumper cars and thrill rides. Wednesdays and weekends are the liveliest times, with extended hours during school holidays.
A Fair in the Heart of the City
The fair's location on the Place de la République, right in the center of Metz, makes it easily accessible on foot from all city center districts. Its proximity to shops and public transport makes it an ideal outing spot for a family afternoon or evening.
The Carnival Fair in Montigny-lès-Metz
In addition to the Metz fair, a Carnival Fair is also held on the Place des Vacons in Montigny-lès-Metz, with attractions for all ages, skill games, and a candy stall. The two fairs operate simultaneously for part of the period.

The Carnival Fair returns from February 7th to March 15th, 2026 on Place de la République in Metz. Rides, skill games, and candy stalls will liven up the city center for over a month. The fair will also be held in Montigny-lès-Metz (Place des Vacons) from February 14th to March 8th, 2026.

Access
Location
Place de la République, 57000 Metz. The fair is set up right in the heart of the city center, on and around the Place de la République.
By Car
Underground parking nearby: Parking République, Parking Cathédrale, and Parking Saint-Jacques. Metz is accessible via the A31 from Nancy and Luxembourg.
By Public Transport
Le Met' network, stop « République » served by the Mettis (BHNS) and several bus lines. The square is at the heart of Metz's transport network.
By Train
Metz-Ville station (TGV from Paris-Est in 1h25). Place de la République is a 10-minute walk from the station.
Opening Hours
- School Days: 3 PM to 7 PM
- Wednesdays, Weekends, and School Holidays: opens at 2 PM, possibility of extension until 10 PM depending on the period
