Ephemeral galleries and heritage in the heart of the bastide
Since 2020, the Monflanquin Festival of Arts and Heritage has taken over the streets, squares, and "carrérots" of one of the most beautiful bastides in the Southwest of France every year. Founded in 1256 by Alphonse de Poitiers, brother of King Saint Louis, Monflanquin offers an exceptional heritage setting to host this unique artistic and cultural event in Lot-et-Garonne.
The festival's concept is as simple as it is appealing: for an entire weekend, public buildings and homes of some residents of Monflanquin open their doors and transform into ephemeral art galleries. More than 50 artists present their creations in about thirty locations scattered throughout the heart of the bastide, offering visitors an artistic trail through the medieval alleys of the village.
The festival is not limited to exhibiting works. It offers a diverse program combining visual arts, art crafts, and cultural activities, for a friendly and family-friendly weekend.
The pop-up galleries host a wide variety of artistic disciplines:
All works are for sale, allowing visitors to leave with an original creation purchased directly from the artist.
Practical workshops and classes are offered throughout the weekend, allowing both children and adults to learn about different artistic techniques. Artists share their know-how through live demonstrations, offering a privileged insight into their creative process.
Live music accompanies visitors as they wander through the streets of the bastide. Concerts and musical performances punctuate the festival, creating a festive and warm atmosphere. An opening reception takes place on Friday evening from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM in the permanent and ephemeral galleries of the village.
One of the unique features of the Monflanquin Festival of Arts and Heritage is its lack of a selection process. Any artist, professional or amateur, can participate as long as they produce and create their own works. A modest contribution is requested from exhibitors to cover communication costs (posters, flyers, signage, color program). This openness fosters artistic diversity and allows for unexpected discoveries.
The festival is also an opportunity to rediscover the architectural heritage of Monflanquin. By exploring the galleries, visitors discover the medieval arcades, half-timbered houses, squares, and secret passages of this royal bastide, classified among the Most Beautiful Villages of France. Built heritage and contemporary art thus enter into dialogue, offering a complete and immersive cultural experience.
The 7th edition of the Monflanquin Festival of Arts and Heritage will be held on June 13 and 14, 2026 in the medieval bastide of Monflanquin, preceded by a preview on the evening of Friday, June 12. More than 50 professional and amateur artists will take over public buildings and private homes to transform them into ephemeral galleries. On the program: painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, jewelry, textiles, creative workshops, demonstrations, and live music. Free admission.
The Association Les Amis de Monflanquin, in collaboration with the Town Hall and GEM Arts Plastiques, is launching the 7th edition of the Monflanquin Festival of Arts and Heritage. For an entire weekend, public buildings and the homes of some Monflanquin residents will open their doors to the public and transform into ephemeral galleries, offering an exhibition and sale by artists from here and elsewhere.
For this 2026 edition, over 50 artists and artisans have confirmed their participation. Artist registrations for 2026 are now closed; the organization is actively preparing the festival. All artistic disciplines are represented: painting, engraving, photography, textiles, ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, and art crafts.
The festival welcomes all creators, both professional and amateur, without a selection process — the only condition being to produce and create one's own works. Pop-up galleries are set up in homes and public buildings in the heart of the bastide, alongside local artisans, for a weekend of artistic activities. Workshops, classes, demonstrations, live music, and children's activities punctuate these two days in the streets and 'carrérots' of the village, classified among the Most Beautiful Villages of France.
The official opening of the festival takes place on Friday, June 12, in the evening, from 6 PM to 8 PM, with a preview and an early viewing in the bastide's ephemeral galleries. The festival itself then runs on Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM, without interruption for lunch.
As every year, the festival is also an opportunity to rediscover the exceptional architectural heritage of Monflanquin, a royal bastide founded in 1256. Heritage plays an important role in the life of the village and is the subject of activities and exhibitions throughout the weekend.
