ℹ️ Festival discontinued — last edition in August 2022. The Festival de la Chanson Française de Montluçon is no longer held under this name. The City of Montluçon announced its transformation in 2023: to replace it, they created the Montlu'Sounds Festival, whose first edition took place in early September 2023.
A free event for French-language song
For nearly two decades, the Festival de la Chanson Française enlivened the medieval city of Montluçon every summer. Entirely free, it offered a series of concerts by artists from the French scene — both emerging talents and more established headliners — on the third weekend of August.
The main stage was set up on the Esplanade du Château des ducs de Bourbon and on the banks of the Cher, while an "Off" program took over several locations in old Montluçon with stages spread throughout the city. The 2022 edition, the last documented, took place from August 19 to 21 and featured seven concerts.
The end of an adventure
After the 2022 edition, the municipality evolved its major summer event. The Festival de la Chanson Française gave way to the Montlu'Sounds Festival, launched in September 2023, which took over the slot of the free late-summer music festival with a program expanded beyond just French-language song. The Festival de la Chanson Française, in its historical form, is therefore no longer held.
