A jazz festival born in Montreuil
Montreuil Jazz Pulsations was born from the initiative of the M'Pulse collective, a group of Montreuil residents passionate about music, and jazz in particular. The first edition was held in May 2009, followed by a second edition from May 25 to 31, 2010, and then a third in 2011.
The festival took place in several venues across the city: la Maison Populaire, les Instants Chavirés, le Café La Pêche, le Théâtre Berthelot, le Conservatoire à rayonnement départemental and le Théâtre de la Girandole, as well as in several bars in Montreuil. Its programming, marked by musical transversality, blended contemporary jazz, improvised music, avant-garde jazz, afro-blues, and world music.
Artists hosted over the editions included Archie Shepp, Jeanne Added, Vincent Courtois, Thomas de Pourquery, Daniel Zimmermann, Hervé Samb, Elise Caron, Bernard Lubat, and Nicolas Genest's Lekéré quintet. The festival also offered educational activities around jazz and concerts for young audiences.
The end of an adventure
No edition has been publicly documented after 2011. La Maison Populaire de Montreuil continues its own program of concerts and shows today, but the Montreuil Pulsations festival as such no longer appears on its calendar. If you are the organiser and a new edition were to take place, please do not hesitate to inform us via the modification form for the listing.
