When street art transforms the capital of Tarentaise
The street art adventure in Moûtiers began in 2018 on the joint initiative of the Federation of Economic Actors, the association Les Éternelles Crapules, and the municipality. The objective is threefold: to allow artistic expression in public spaces, to integrate a cultural and tourist dimension to the city, and to offer visitors a new way to discover Moûtiers.
The gamble quickly paid off. Year after year, the festival attracts increasingly renowned artists, and monumental frescoes multiply on the city's facades. The historic center, the pedestrian street, and the usually less frequented neighborhoods are adorned with bright colors and often spectacular works, creating a permanent artistic trail accessible to all, free of charge, in all seasons.
Today, nearly fifty mural works mark the streets of Moûtiers, forming a unique street art trail in Savoie. These frescoes, created by artists from France and elsewhere, cover a wide diversity of styles: realism, abstraction, figurative art, trompe-l'œil, giant characters, and graphic compositions. Each wall tells a story, dialogues with the local architecture and the listed historic monuments that dot the city.
The trail allows for a rediscovery of Moûtiers from a resolutely contemporary perspective, blending ancient heritage with current artistic creation. Guided tours and trail maps are offered by the Cœur de Tarentaise tourist office to accompany the discovery.
Each edition of the festival takes place over a week, during which several artists simultaneously invest different neighborhoods of the city. Residents and visitors can witness the creation of the works live, interact with the artists, and follow the evolution of the frescoes day by day. This participatory dimension makes the festival a moment of sharing and conviviality, far beyond a simple artistic event.
The 2025 edition, the 8th of its name, takes place from June 21 to 28 and brings together five renowned artists who will invest four neighborhoods of the city, continuing the artistic transformation of Moûtiers.
The Moûtiers Street Art Festival has helped reposition the image of Moûtiers, a transit town often overlooked despite its rich historical heritage. As the gateway to the major ski resorts of Tarentaise — Les Trois Vallées, La Plagne, Les Arcs — Moûtiers now attracts visitors specifically for its street art trail, including in the summer. The festival has been featured by France Info and numerous regional and national media, confirming its influence beyond Savoie.
The Moûtiers Street Art Festival returns for its ninth edition from June 20 to 27, 2026. True to its format of a week of live creation, the festival invites new international artists to enrich the permanent trail of monumental frescoes that has made the town famous.
Since 2018, each edition adds new works to Moûtiers' urban artistic heritage, making the capital of Tarentaise a benchmark for Alpine street art.
The festival takes place in the streets and on the facades of Moûtiers, 73600, Savoie.
The fresco trail is accessible all year round, free of charge. Maps available at the Cœur de Tarentaise tourist office and online.
The creation festival takes place every year in June, over one week. Free admission.
