Every June 21, Chaumont celebrates the Fête de la Musique: the city center transforms into a musical promenade where several stages host amateur and professional musicians for free. Organized by the City of Chaumont, the day is entirely free and open to all styles, from rock to classical, including rap, electro, jazz, and world music.
The Fête de la Musique in Chaumont
As everywhere in France since 1982, the Fête de la Musique transforms the prefecture of Haute-Marne into an open-air stage every June 21. Music freely takes over public spaces: solos, duos, groups, DJs, acoustic or amplified acts take turns throughout the afternoon and evening, in all genres and for all audiences.
A musical promenade in the city center
The City of Chaumont sets up several stages throughout the city center to create a true musical promenade: at the turn of streets and squares, one moves from one atmosphere to another — rock, pop, rap, electro, jazz, world music, classical, or unclassifiable. The program gives pride of place to amateur practices and local talents, who register in advance to be assigned a suitable location.
