Fête de la Musique in Saint-Nazaire

Like everywhere else in France since 1982, the Fête de la Musique turns the city of shipyards into an open-air stage every June 21. From the early afternoon until late at night, amateur musicians, music school students, dancers, choirs, and professional artists take over public spaces for free, offering something for everyone across all musical styles.

Four seafront stages and over twenty-five city locations

In Saint-Nazaire, the 2026 edition is managed by the Les Escales association in partnership with the City of Saint-Nazaire. Four fully equipped official stages are set up along the seafront—the Jardin des Plantes kiosk, the Skatepark, the square Louis Brichaux in Sautron, and Port Désiré—hosting over thirty bands alone. Surrounding these, more than twenty-five other spots taken over by collectives, associations, local businesses, and artists form a vast musical circuit: the city center and place du Commerce, the Saint-Nazaire church and its forecourt, the Bain Public, the Aquaparc forecourt, the La Bara-K and La Bronzette kiosks, place du Commando, place de l'Amérique Latine, Villès-Martin, the Monsieur Hulot beach in Saint-Marc, the Nomad'café in La Trébale, and the minigolf course at the Parc paysager.

The program, which is just as open to dance as it is to music, covers a wide spectrum of genres: sea shanties, choirs and gospel, traditional Breton, Irish, and West African music, jazz, blues, rock, pop, rap, afrobeat, salsa, reggae dub, and electro. Over 90 performances are listed in the official program, which is by no means exhaustive: the festival remains open, and anyone is free to play wherever they like.

Highlights not to be missed

The most spectacular moment of the day is Tout Saint-Nazaire chante: the local choir Kaléidos Songs brings together over 800 singers on boulevard Albert 1er, facing the fishing huts, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, to perform classic French songs together under the direction of Jacques Le Bail. Elsewhere, the Maréviva batucada band sets off from City Hall at 5:00 PM before parading toward the seafront starting at 7:00 PM, the Soniklab disco-techno DJ set takes over the Halle Estuaire in the Petit Maroc district from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, and place du Commando turns into a dance floor until 11:30 PM with the Le Command'Oz association, featuring everything from line dancing to salsa.
