About Nancyphonies

Nancyphonies is a major classical music festival in the Grand Est region, founded in 1990 under the name Rencontres Musicales en Lorraine. Every summer, the festival invites the greatest international artists to perform in Nancy's heritage venues: Salle Poirel, Place Stanislas, Kiosque de la Pépinière. Directed by pianist Hugues Leclère, it offers a program combining chamber music, recitals, symphonic concerts, and baroque music. Since its creation, over 1,500 artists have performed there before 150,000 spectators.

A benchmark festival in Lorraine

Created in 1990, the Nancyphonies festival has established itself, under the artistic direction of its founder, pianist Hugues Leclère, as one of the essential classical music events in the Grand Est region. The festival has managed to retain a demanding audience while opening up to new spectators thanks to an accessible program and free open-air concerts.

Exceptional venues in the heart of Nancy

One of the unique features of Nancyphonies lies in the choice of its concert venues. The prestigious Salle Poirel, a 19th-century architectural gem located on rue Victor Poirel, hosts the festival's major concerts. The Grand Salons of the Hôtel de Ville, overlooking the majestic Place Stanislas, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offer a sumptuous setting for recitals and chamber concerts. The Auditorium of the Conservatoire du Grand Nancy and the Kiosque de la Pépinière complete this constellation of venues, each providing unique acoustics and atmosphere. The festival also extends beyond Nancy, investing in venues in Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy and Seichamps.

A program balancing excellence and discovery

The Nancyphonies repertoire covers a wide musical spectrum: chamber music, piano recitals, symphonic concerts, baroque music, and contemporary works. Since its creation, the festival has welcomed internationally renowned artists such as Grigory Sokolov, Arcadi Volodos, Augustin Dumay, Stephen Hough, Viktoria Mullova, Brigitte Engerer, and Boris Berezovski. Public masterclasses, offered in addition to the concerts, allow the audience to discover the behind-the-scenes of musical interpretation and interact with the artists.

A local foundation with an international outlook

Nancyphonies asserts a strong Lorraine foundation while looking beyond borders. Every year, artists from all over Europe and the world gather in Nancy to share their art. The festival actively contributes to the cultural and tourist influence of the Métropole du Grand Nancy and the Grand Est region, attracting a loyal and curious audience that extends far beyond the borders of Meurthe-et-Moselle.

Nancyphonies — edition 2026

The 36th edition of Nancyphonies once again takes over the heritage sites of Nancy and the Métropole du Grand Nancy from July 4 to 18, 2026, with 17 exceptional concerts and public masterclasses. Promising young talents perform alongside internationally renowned artists, in a friendly atmosphere that is the hallmark of the festival.
