Ceramics celebration by the Creuse river
For over twenty years, the National Potters Market in Argenton-sur-Creuse has established itself as one of the major ceramic events in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Every last Sunday of June, the Promenade du Rabois, a magnificent promenade along the banks of the Creuse, transforms into an open-air art gallery where over forty professional ceramists exhibit and sell their creations.
The market offers an exceptional overview of contemporary ceramic techniques. Visitors can admire and purchase pieces in stoneware, porcelain, earthenware, raku, smoked clay, and many other techniques. From utilitarian objects to purely decorative pieces, from contemporary creations to traditional forms, each stand reveals a unique artistic universe. Potters, from all over the country, are happy to share their know-how and explain their manufacturing processes to curious visitors.
The choice of the Promenade du Rabois as the exhibition venue is not accidental. This tree-lined promenade along the Creuse offers a magnificent natural setting that enhances the exhibited works. Argenton-sur-Creuse, nicknamed the Venice of Berry, captivates with its remarkable architectural heritage, its half-timbered houses overlooking the river, and its peaceful atmosphere. A visit to the potters' market is therefore an opportunity to discover or rediscover this picturesque town.
The event is organized by the association Les Amis du Merle Blanc, deeply rooted in the life of the neighborhood and the town. This dynamic association perpetuates a tradition of conviviality and sharing through the organization of this market, which attracts a large and loyal audience each year. Access to the market is completely free, from 9 am to 7 pm, allowing everyone to enjoy this day dedicated to ceramic art.
In addition to the exhibition-sale, the market offers pottery wheel demonstrations and modeling, allowing the public to observe the precise gestures of the artisans. A refreshment stand and food stalls complete the offerings for a pleasant day with family or friends by the water.
