About Off-Courts
Off-Courts — edition 2026
The 27th edition of the Off-Courts Festival takes place from September 5th to 11th, 2026, in Trouville-sur-Mer. With nearly 2,500 films submitted, over 100 short films programmed, and 44 competing for twelve awards, the festival features selections from France and Quebec, international carte blanche showcases, 72-hour creative labs, and a film market. Everything is free of charge.
27th Edition — September 5th to 11th, 2026
Off-Courts returns to Trouville-sur-Mer from Saturday, September 5th, to Friday, September 11th, 2026, for its 27th edition. The Off association received nearly 2,500 films and is screening over 100 of them. Three competitions—France, Quebec, and Documentary—feature 44 films vying for twelve awards. Everything is free.
Competitions
Sixteen French short films were selected from 1,534 submissions and are divided into three sessions; nineteen films represent Quebec, also across three sessions. The six documentaries will be screened outdoors on the beach at the Planche de Trouville on Monday, September 7th, at 9:15 PM. All competitive screenings during the opening weekend are followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers in attendance. The jury will be introduced on Saturday evening, September 5th, following the Made in Trouville program.
Out of Competition
The out-of-competition selection includes six thematic programs: Family Stories, Made in Trouville, Court Mais Trash, Sunday Morning, Politik, and Normandy, Regional Cinema. Three carte blanche showcases are entrusted to France Télévisions, featuring short films directed by Fanny Ardant, Louise Bourgoin, and Hugo Becker, who will be present in the theater; the Emergence Festival in Lomé for a focus on Togo; and the Beirut Shorts festival for a focus on Lebanon. Two "From Short to Feature" sessions trace the careers of Avril Besson (Monday 7th at 2:00 PM) and Jonathan Beaulieu-Cyr (Wednesday 9th at 8:00 PM), from their early shorts to their first feature films.
The Off Labs
The International Creative Laboratories are in their 24th year and are split into two sessions this year. The Kabaret session, open to everyone without prior registration, gives participants 72 hours to write, shoot, and edit a film of up to 3 minutes: it runs from Sunday the 6th to Tuesday the 8th, with screenings on Tuesday the 8th at 8:00 PM (capped at 30 films). The Kinoworld session, reserved for invited filmmakers, student groups, and special projects, runs from Sunday the 6th to Thursday the 10th, with screenings on Thursday the 10th at 8:30 PM. The production meeting takes place on Sunday the 6th at 9:30 AM at the Village Off, followed by six free mini-workshops: sound, camera, editing, mixing, casting, and an introduction to Kino. Camera and sound kits are loaned to teams without technicians. Actor and director Hugo Becker is the patron of the 2026 Labs. Two special projects are running in parallel: a Youth Lab with students from Lycée Marie-Jo and Sorbonne Nouvelle, and a Senior Lab with the ARA.
The International Short Film Market
The Market opens on Monday, September 7th, at 10:00 AM and concludes with a cocktail reception on Thursday the 10th at 7:45 PM. It is reserved for accredited professionals. The program includes round tables, masterclasses, acquisition meetings, pro cafes, and a festival forum. According to Mediakwest, this edition focuses on production technologies: Sony presents a case study on the filming of the short Luminia using virtual production on Crystal LED walls; Adobe unveils the latest features of Premiere Pro during a masterclass led by Fred Rolland; and a round table brings together Fred Rolland, David Defendi, Vladimir Feral, and Jeanne Signé to discuss the impact of artificial intelligence on the production chain.
The Village Off
Located at the seaside nautical complex on the Promenade des Planches, the Village Off is the festival's headquarters: image education workshops, FX makeup, exhibitions, a photo gallery, stands, a terrace and bar, and a seafood barbecue on the esplanade. Screenings take place at the Salon des Gouverneurs in the Casino Barrière.

Off-Courts: Short Films in Freedom in Trouville-sur-Mer
Since 2000, the Off-Courts Festival in Trouville-sur-Mer has been the annual meeting point for Franco-Quebecois short films. Born from the desire to create a cinematic bridge between France and Quebec, the festival has expanded over the years to welcome short films from around the world.
A Generous and Eclectic Festival
For a week in September, Off-Courts offers a rich program: official short film competitions, thematic evenings "from short to feature," special screenings, shows, concerts, exhibitions, and workshops. The official selection includes over 30 films, while the entire program features more than 100 films screened.
The festival is entirely free and open to all, true to its philosophy of sharing and accessibility. It brings together film industry professionals, emerging directors, and cinephiles every year in the unique atmosphere of this Norman seaside resort.
A Springboard for Young Filmmakers
Off-Courts is recognized as a true springboard for young filmmakers, with the support of the CNC, France Télévisions, and Unifrance. The festival offers creative workshops, writing residencies, and professional meetings to foster the career development of short film directors.
