The biggest trail race in Dordogne, between bastides and valleys of Périgord
The Périgord Grand Trail is the biggest trail running event in Dordogne, bringing together over 800 runners each May on the trails of Périgord Pourpre and Périgord Noir. Since 2018, the race starting from Lalinde offers four course formats ranging from 18 to 90 kilometers, crossing medieval bastides, Romanesque churches, historic towns, and forgotten estates along the Dordogne valley. The Ultra du Périgord, the main 90 km event with 2,400 m of positive elevation gain, is a race referenced in the UTMB Index.
The Périgord Grand Trail was born in 2018 from the passion of local runners eager to showcase the natural and heritage riches of the Dordogne through outdoor running. Starting from La Guillou, near Lalinde, the event offers four race formats accessible to all levels, from hikers to experienced trail runners.
The Ultra du Périgord (90 km, 2,400 m D+) is the flagship event, crossing the most beautiful landscapes of Périgord Pourpre and Périgord Noir, passing through Couze, Lanquais, Bayac, Saint-Avit-Sénieur, Molières, Cales, Trémolat, and Mauzac. The Trail des Bastides (46 km, 1,400 m D+), the Trail de la Vallée Pourpre (30 km, 800 m D+), and the Trace du Cinglé (18 km, 400 m D+) complete the offering.
The Périgord Grand Trail highlights the built and natural heritage of the Dordogne: medieval bastides, Romanesque churches, ridge paths, oak forests, limestone cliffs, and meanders of the Dordogne river. The event is supported by local authorities and regional tourism offices.
The 9th edition of the Périgord Grand Trail is confirmed for Saturday, May 9, 2026, in Lalinde. Four races from 18 to 90 km in the heart of Périgord Pourpre and Noir. Registrations are open on the official website.
