The contemporary poetry festival of the Puy-de-Dôme
The Printemps des Poètes in the Puy-de-Dôme takes the form of the Semaine de la Poésie, an annual literary festival that resonates contemporary poetic creation throughout the department. Organized in March, echoing the national Printemps des Poètes, this event offers a dense week of readings, encounters, writing workshops, exhibitions, screenings, and poetic performances at the Espace Municipal Georges-Conchon in Clermont-Ferrand and in numerous locations throughout the department: libraries, bookstores, municipal halls, and cinemas. About fifteen guest poets from diverse backgrounds read their texts and interact with the public, while an ambitious school program reaches classes from kindergarten to university.
The Poetry Week of the Puy-de-Dôme is one of the most important poetic events in France, with nearly four decades of existence. Each year in March, it invites about fifteen contemporary poets from France and abroad to read their texts, meet the public, and engage in a warm atmosphere. The event is coordinated in close conjunction with the national Printemps des Poètes, whose annual theme it adopts.
The heart of the festival unfolds at the Espace Municipal Georges-Conchon in Clermont-Ferrand, but the events spread throughout the department: libraries, bookstores, municipal halls, cinemas, and cultural venues in the Puy-de-Dôme. The program includes public readings, meetings with poets, writing workshops, exhibitions, round tables on the creation of poetry, and film screenings related to poetry.
The Poetry Week is distinguished by its ambitious school program, with several dozen meetings organized in schools throughout the department, from kindergarten to university. The invited poets visit classrooms to share their passion and introduce young people to poetic creation. This educational component, supported by the Académie de Clermont-Ferrand, reaches thousands of students each year.
Each edition is placed under the patronage of a literary personality who accompanies the programming and participates in the events. The event benefits from the support of the City of Clermont-Ferrand, the Department of Puy-de-Dôme, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, and numerous cultural partners.
The 39th Poetry Week is held from March 14 to 31, 2026, under the patronage of writer Emmanuelle Pireyre, echoing the 28th national Printemps des Poètes on the theme 'Freedom. Living force, deployed'. 14 guest poets, 32 public encounters, and 67 school encounters.
