About Puppet Week

The Puppet and Animated Forms Week is an annual event organized in Lanuéjols by Scènes Croisées de Lozère and the company L'hiver nu, at La Fabrique Théâtrale du Viala. Every March, this former holiday center, converted into a theater creation space, transforms into a sensitive laboratory where the public discovers works in progress combining puppetry, object theater, music, and visual arts. Practical workshops, meetings with artists, and a closing banquet punctuate this week dedicated to the art of puppetry.

A Puppetry Creation Laboratory

The Puppet and Animated Forms Week is a unique annual event in Lozère, driven by Scènes Croisées de Lozère and the compagnie L'hiver nu. Every March, La Fabrique Théâtrale du Viala, in Lanuéjols, opens its doors to the public to share the creation process of puppetry and object theater artists and companies.

La Fabrique Théâtrale du Viala

Established in the fall of 2011 in a former converted holiday center, La Fabrique du Viala is a unique theater research and creation space in Lozère. Its two rehearsal and research rooms, connected by a foyer set up as a bar, host theater, puppetry, music, and dance companies throughout the season.

A Philosophy of Sharing

The Puppet Week embodies the venue's philosophy: a space where art and daily life are no longer separated. The public is invited to discover works in progress, attend open laboratories where creators share their insights and research, and participate in practical workshops.

Program

Each edition invites a resident company to present excerpts from its ongoing creation. In 2026, Compagnie Matiloun will present “Sacré” (provisional title), a creation inspired by the life of scientist Nathalie Cabrol, exploring the question “where does life come from?” through puppets, sounds, images, and live music.

Workshops and Meetings

The week offers practical workshops on manipulation and creation, accessible from age 5, meetings with artists, and mediation sessions to understand the creation process. A collective luminous ritual and a closing banquet conclude the week in a festive and friendly atmosphere.

An Event Rooted in the Territory

The Puppet Week is co-organized with the EPCI Mont-Lozère, integrating the event into local cultural life. The Banquets d'Hiver, monthly gatherings at La Fabrique du Viala bringing together 40 to 70 people for a shared meal and performances, extend this dynamic throughout the year.
