The Rencontres Guitare et Patrimoine en Ardennes is a must-attend event for guitar lovers. Since 1994, this festival organized by the MJC Calonne in Sedan has offered a rich and varied program each summer, from late June to mid-July, celebrating the guitar in all its diversity: classical, baroque, flamenco, gypsy jazz, and world music. The event is distinguished by its exceptional setting, with concerts taking place in remarkable heritage sites in the city of Sedan.
The uniqueness of the Rencontres lies in the dialogue between music and heritage. Concerts are held in historic locations: the Galerie des Antiques of the Château Fort de Sedan, the largest fortress in Europe, and the MJC Calonne, housed in a mansion on Place Calonne. The Sedan Heritage Service offers free guided tours before certain concerts, allowing spectators to discover the history of these exceptional places before immersing themselves in the music.
Each edition invites internationally renowned guitarists. The 2025 edition, the 32nd festival, will feature artists such as Vera Danilina, a young Russian classical guitarist laureate of the Michele Pittaluga and Roland Dyens competitions, the Barcelona Guitar Trio with a tribute to Paco de Lucía, Juan Carmona for flamenco, Bruno Helstroffer in duet with Laurène Durantel on double bass, and Alice Letort in a baroque trio with a countertenor. The festival also offers an OFF program in partner bars in Sedan.
Beyond the concerts, the Rencontres offer guitar workshops led by professional musicians, open to amateurs of all levels. Musical conferences enrich the program, such as the one dedicated in 2024 to the guitarist and composer Roland Dyens (1955-2016), presented by his sister Laura. The 2025 edition innovated with a ball in the castle moats, where the public could dance to tarantellas and folk music, a first in the festival's history.
With over thirty editions to its name, the Rencontres Guitare et Patrimoine has established itself as a major cultural event in the Ardennes. The festival defines itself as a "reliable and sustainable event," offering music lovers and the curious a true artistic interlude. Ticketing offers packages adapted to all audiences: festival pass for all concerts, discovery pass for three concerts, or single tickets, with reduced rates for young people under 25.
Concerts take place at the MJC Calonne, Place Calonne, 08200 Sedan, and at the Galerie des Antiques of the Château Fort in Sedan.
