Festival of cinema and literature of the Pacific islands and oceans
Rochefort Pacifique is a unique festival in France dedicated to Oceanian cultures. Every year in April, the festival highlights a Pacific country through film and documentary screenings, exhibitions, meetings, and workshops, far from exotic clichés.
Created in 2007 by the association Cinéma des Ailleurs, Rochefort Pacifique is the only festival in France dedicated to the peoples and cultures of the Pacific. Its ambition: to open a space for discovery, sharing, and reflection far from exotic clichés to better understand Oceanian peoples in all their diversity.
Each edition highlights a Pacific territory: Fiji, Guam, Easter Island have been celebrated in recent editions. For 2026, the 20th edition will honor Oceania as a whole with two strong themes: transpacific navigation and environmental and climate issues.
The festival offers screenings of films and documentaries, exhibitions, workshops, and encounters with figures from Oceania. Oceanian events are also organized throughout the year to maintain the link with these cultures.
20th edition celebrating Oceania with navigation and climate themes
For its 20th edition, the Rochefort Pacifique Festival celebrates Oceania with two major themes: the 50th anniversary of the first crossing of the Hōkūle'a (a replica of a Polynesian canoe), and the environment/climate change with COP 31 in Australia.
