About Baroque Sauternes

The Baroque Festival in Sauternes is a baroque music festival organized annually in the heart of winter in the village of Sauternes, Gironde. Supported by the Centre de Musique Ancienne Sauternes (CMAS), it takes over Saint-Pierre church, the châteaux of Sauternais (Yquem, Filhot, La Tour Blanche…) and the Alexandre de Lur Saluces cultural space for a day combining concerts by specialized ensembles, flash concerts, conferences, instrumental initiation workshops, a luthier exhibition, and Sauternes wine tastings.

The Baroque Festival in Sauternes, winter with early music

The Baroque Festival in Sauternes is the major annual event of the Centre de Musique Ancienne Sauternes (CMAS), supported by the association Les Fils du Tonaire. In the heart of winter, the village of Sauternes hosts a day entirely dedicated to baroque and early music, in exceptional venues within the Gironde vineyard.

Concerts, ensembles, and prestigious venues

The program brings together specialized early music ensembles and offers several concerts throughout the day: free-access flash concerts, recitals (harpsichord, voice), and a grand finale featuring baroque choir and orchestra. Concerts take place in Saint-Pierre church, at the Alexandre de Lur Saluces cultural space, and in several emblematic châteaux of Sauternais opened for the occasion.

Much more than concerts

Beyond the concerts, the Baroque Festival offers an exhibition of luthiers and makers of early instruments, conferences about music, instrumental initiation workshops, and convivial moments punctuated by Sauternes wine tastings. The event aims to spark curiosity, encounters, and wonder around baroque musical heritage.

Strong local roots

Organized by the CMAS, an early music school and center located in Sauternes, the Baroque Festival relies on the châteaux, volunteers, and local partners. It contributes to the cultural influence of Sauternais and Gironde, by combining wine heritage and musical heritage.
