About Silhouette

Created in 2002, the Silhouette Festival is the largest free open-air short film festival in Paris. Every year at the end of August and the beginning of September, for over a week, the Parc de la Butte du Chapeau Rouge in the 19th arrondissement transforms into an open-air cinema. Each evening begins with a concert by an emerging artist from Île-de-France, followed by two hours of international short film screenings in competition on a giant inflatable screen. Supported by the Association Silhouette, this popular and demanding festival combines cinematic discovery, live music, and summer conviviality.

The Silhouette Festival: Short Films Under the Parisian Stars

Since 2002, the Silhouette Festival has offered a unique end-of-summer event with international open-air short films. Located in the Parc de la Butte du Chapeau Rouge in Paris's 19th arrondissement, the festival welcomes thousands of spectators for free, who come to relax on the grass and enjoy evenings combining live music and cinema under the stars.

The concept is simple and effective: each evening, a concert by an emerging artist from Île-de-France kicks off the festivities at 7:30 PM, followed at 9:00 PM by the screening of two hours of international short films in competition on a giant inflatable screen set up in the park. This generous format has built the festival's reputation and fostered a large and diverse audience.

A Festival Rooted in its Neighborhood

The Silhouette Festival is deeply connected to Paris's 19th arrondissement and its residents. Supported by the Association Silhouette, it benefits from the backing of the Île-de-France Region, the City of Paris, and numerous cultural partners. Over the years, it has forged strong ties with the local associative and cultural fabric, making this event a popular gathering that extends far beyond the circle of film enthusiasts.

A Demanding Yet Accessible Program

The festival's international selection is the result of rigorous programming work. Each year, hundreds of short films are submitted to the selection committee, which chooses about thirty works representative of the genre's diversity: fiction, animation, documentary, and experimental film. The selected films compete for the Grand Prix Silhouette and several other awards.

Young Audiences Mornings and Teen Evenings

Beyond the open-air evenings, the Silhouette Festival offers young audience mornings for children aged 3 and up, with adapted short film programs, as well as teen evenings. These screenings, scheduled on weekends and Wednesdays, take place in the park or at the Pavillon Carré de Baudouin in the 20th arrondissement. The festival thus establishes itself as a family-friendly and intergenerational event.

A Launchpad for Emerging Artists

The musical component of the festival serves as a real launchpad for emerging artists on the Parisian scene. Each evening, a musician or group performs for a large and supportive audience, gaining valuable visibility in the Parisian cultural landscape.
