The cross-border festival of contemporary music
Since 2023, Strasbourg Music Week has brought together emerging artists, professionals, and enthusiasts of contemporary music from France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Switzerland for four days. Part festival, part professional convention, this unique cross-border event features intimate concerts in Strasbourg venues, conferences on the music industry, workshops, and urban sound walks. A European crossroads to discover the sounds of tomorrow.
Created in 2023, Strasbourg Music Week is the first cross-border festival-convention dedicated to contemporary music in the Grand Est region. Leveraging Strasbourg's exceptional geographical position – at the crossroads of five countries within a 300-kilometer radius – the festival brings together around twenty emerging and established artists from France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Switzerland each spring.
The originality of Strasbourg Music Week lies in its dual format. In the evenings, Strasbourg's concert venues – La Grenze, Karmen Camina, Le Molodoï, Espace K – host intimate and electrifying concert nights, exploring a wide spectrum of genres: electro, rock, hip-hop, pop, experimental jazz, and unclassifiable music. The reduced capacity of the venues fosters a rare proximity between artists and the audience.
During the day, the festival transforms into a professional convention bringing together players from the music industry: labels, promoters, programmers, managers, and media. Conferences address the challenges of the contemporary music industry – rurality and music, professional well-being, support for FINTA (female, intersex, non-binary, trans, agender) artists – while listening workshops and networking sessions encourage cross-border encounters and collaborations.
The festival's artistic signature, sound walks, invites the public to rediscover Strasbourg through sound. Guided by artists, participants wander through the city's streets, squares, and parks, headphones on, listening to original sound creations that transform the urban landscape into a musical score.
Strasbourg Music Week positions itself as a springboard for the European emerging scene. The festival prioritizes developing artists, debut albums, and experimental projects, offering a valuable showcase for musicians shaping the sounds of tomorrow. The geographical criterion – a 300 km radius around Strasbourg – reinforces the regional and cross-border focus of the programming.
The 4th edition of Strasbourg Music Week will take place from May 5th to 8th, 2026, with 24 artists from France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, and Switzerland. Four days of concerts, conferences, workshops, and a sound walk concluding the festival.
