The great festival of strawberries, flowers, and wine in Sainte-Bazeille
Each year, on the second weekend of May, the village of Sainte-Bazeille in Lot-et-Garonne transforms into a vast popular festival dedicated to strawberries, flowers, and wine. Since its creation in 1984, the Strawberry, Flower and Wine Fair has become one of the unmissable events in the Val de Garonne, attracting over 20,000 visitors over two days.
It was on the initiative of Mayor Fernand Lagaüzère that the idea was born to promote local strawberry production in Sainte-Bazeille. Lot-et-Garonne is one of the leading strawberry producing departments in France, with renowned varieties such as Cléry, with its intense flavor, and Lycia, with its generous size. The harvest mobilizes dozens of seasonal workers every year from mid-April.
On Sunday morning, the Strawberry Trophy kicks off the sporting festivities at the sports ground with:
The highlight of the fair, the giant strawberry tart parade winds through the village streets in the early afternoon, followed by a tasting offered to all visitors. This gourmet and friendly spectacle symbolizes the generous spirit of the event.
Saturday is marked by:
Sunday hosts the heart of the fair with:
Beyond strawberries, the fair highlights flowers and plants with horticultural exhibitors, as well as Val de Garonne wines offered for tasting. This strawberry-flower-wine trio reflects the agricultural richness of this territory located between Marmande and La Réole, along the Garonne river.
The 41st Strawberry, Flower, and Wine Fair of Sainte-Bazeille was held on Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10, 2026, in the town center of this commune in Val de Garonne (Lot-et-Garonne). Organized by the Association Culture et Loisirs with the support of the municipality, this edition confirmed the proven formula of this unmissable event of the second weekend of May: Saturday under the sign of sport with the 4th edition of the great Strawberry Rugby Tournament for young players (850 children, 19 clubs, 12 fields) and the opening of the Regional Model Making Exhibition in the village hall, Sunday dedicated to the heart of the fair with the Strawberry Trophy (hiking and foot races), the gourmet village, the flower market, the craft fair under the market hall, the large flea market, the funfair, and the parade of the giant strawberry tart (8 m long, 1 m wide, 160 kg of strawberries, nearly 1,000 portions distributed), accompanied by a free concert in the late afternoon.
The 41st edition of the Strawberry, Flower, and Wine Fair of Sainte-Bazeille (47180) was held on Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10, 2026, in the town center of this commune in Val de Garonne, Lot-et-Garonne. Organized by the Association Culture et Loisirs de Sainte-Bazeille with the support of the municipality and numerous local associations, the event returned to its proven formula which has made it, since 1984, one of the great popular gatherings of the South-West, attracting more than 20,000 visitors over two days.
In line with the ambition displayed by the organizers ("under the sign of sport"), Saturday was dominated by the 4th edition of the great Strawberry Rugby Tournament for young players, organized by the Rugby Club Bazeillais starting at 9:30 AM on the sports ground. 850 young players from 19 clubs competed in three categories (U8, U10, U12) on 12 fields, with the support of about sixty volunteers. Simultaneously, the Regional Model Making Exhibition, organized by the Amicale des Ferromodélistes Girondins, opened its doors in the afternoon at the village hall (avenue du Général de Gaulle), showcasing trains, cars, boats, planes, models, and figurines, as well as an exhibition of giant LEGO creations. The day concluded with a convivial steak-frites meal at the castle park (by reservation) followed by outdoor musical entertainment.
Sunday unfolded all the traditional richness of the event. The day started at dawn with the setup of the flea market (exhibitors arriving at 6 AM, unpacking until 6 PM in the town center streets). The Strawberry Trophy, organized on an 11 km course, brought together athletes with a walking tour at 9:00 AM and foot races starting at 9:45 AM (registrations via klikego.com). The official inauguration took place at 10:30 AM, followed by an aperitif offered by the municipality at the castle park at 11:30 AM.
In the afternoon, the public discovered the gourmet village with its tastings of strawberries (Cléry and Lycia varieties in particular), Val de Garonne wines, and local specialties, the craft fair under the market hall highlighting heritage trades and savoir-faire, two additional artist exhibitions set up by the Association Culture et Loisirs, the flower market, the funfair, and strawberry dessert competitions.
A highlight of the fair, the parade of the giant strawberry tart made its way through the town center streets in the mid-afternoon. The 2026 tart, made by about thirty volunteers with the help of the Confrérie de la Tarte géante ô Fraises de Lapeyrouse-Fossat, measured 8 meters long by 1 meter wide, and required 18 people to carry it. Its composition: 160 kg of strawberries, 45 liters of pastry cream, and 50 sheets of puff pastry. Nearly 1,000 portions were distributed free of charge to the public during the tasting that followed the parade. A free outdoor concert concluded the day.
As every year, the fair confirmed its role as a showcase for the Val de Garonne terroir, located between Marmande and La Réole along the Garonne. Lot-et-Garonne remains one of the leading strawberry-producing departments in France, with a season that starts in mid-April and mobilizes several dozen seasonal workers for the harvest. The strawberry-flowers-wine triptych remains the common thread of an event that brings together elected officials, organizers, merchants, artisans, and producers around a completely free festival open to all.
