Laroquebrou, the swing capital every summer
Created in 2013 by the association SwingAout, the festival was born from the passion of Lionel Mauvais and a group of friends for swing dances and music from the 1930s to 1950s. Since its first edition, SwingAout has continuously grown to become one of the most renowned swing dance festivals in Europe. Every summer, for ten days in August, the medieval village of Laroquebrou, nestled on the banks of the Cère river 24 km from Aurillac, transforms into a place of celebration and sharing dedicated to swing in all its forms.
A rich program of workshops and dance parties
The festival offers a comprehensive program centered around several highlights:
- Boogie-Woogie Workshops (first 3 days): classes taught by international instructors, included in the Boogie and Boogie & Swing passes.
- Swing Workshops (following week): Lindy Hop, Solo Jazz, Balboa, and Blues with teachers from around the world.
- Outdoor Dance Parties: every evening, a large outdoor dance floor hosts participants to the sound of live orchestras.
- Competitions: Boogie-Woogie and Lindy Hop contests bring together the best dancers.
- Dedicated Balboa and Blues Rooms: specific spaces for these intimate styles.
Live Orchestras and a Retro Atmosphere
One of SwingAout's strengths lies in its live music programming. Each edition features at least six orchestras that perform on stage, keeping the dance floor alive. The bands mix swing, gypsy jazz, rhythm and blues, and boogie-woogie, recreating the atmosphere of 1940s dance halls. The large outdoor dance floor, set up on the Foirail square, offers a unique setting under the Cantal stars.
A Village Transformed by Dance
For ten days, Laroquebrou lives to the rhythm of swing. The Foirail becomes the beating heart of the festival, with the outdoor dance floor, food trucks offering affordable meals, and festival attendee reception. The multi-purpose hall hosts workshops and some evening events. The village shops—supermarket, bakery, butcher, restaurants—participate in welcoming dancers. The municipal campsite, located just 300 meters away, offers preferential rates for participants.
An International and Friendly Event
SwingAout attracts dancers from all over Europe and beyond, creating a joyful and welcoming cultural melting pot. The festival is open to all levels, from complete beginners to professional dancers. The spirit of exchange and sharing, the quality of international instructors, and the beauty of the natural setting make SwingAout a unique event in the European swing dance festival scene.
