Festival of contemporary and world music at the Jardins du Roc d'Embrun
The Trad'in Festival is a festival of contemporary and world music held every summer in Embrun, in the Hautes-Alpes. Created in 2010 by the Kaya association, it has established itself as a major event on the Alpine music scene, attracting a loyal and curious audience each year, lovers of mixed music and artistic encounters.
The festival takes place in the Jardins du Roc, a remarkable natural site located in the heart of Embrun's historic center. Perched at 80 meters above the Roc, the legendary Trad'in stage offers a breathtaking panorama of the Durance valley and the surrounding peaks. This spectacular setting, where music resonates between sky and mountain, gives the festival a unique atmosphere and an incomparable visual identity. The site has two spaces with different ambiances, allowing for varied sound experiences and artistic discoveries.
The Trad'in Festival's program is distinguished by its musical transversality, mixing world music, rock, ska, punk, electro, Celtic and Occitan music, cumbia, reggae, and hip-hop. The festival favors artists who embody the fusion of genres and cultures, creating bridges between musical traditions and contemporary sounds. Among the artists who have performed on the Trad'in stage are Massilia Sound System, Le Peuple de l'Herbe, Les Ramoneurs de Menhirs, Debout sur le Zinc, La Ruda, Orange Blossom, Sidi Wacho, Lou Dalfin, La Yegros, and Goulamas'K.
For three evenings, the Trad'in Festival offers open-air concerts, from dusk till dawn, in a festive and friendly atmosphere. Each edition is marked by a unifying theme: in 2025, the festival paid tribute to the Woodstock Festival and the Flower Power movement, inviting the public to wear bandanas, fringes, and bell-bottoms. On Sunday afternoon, a free concert for children completes the program, making Trad'in a truly family-friendly event.
The Trad'in Festival is committed to an ambitious eco-responsible approach: stage powered 100% by solar energy, low-consumption lighting, dry toilets, eco-responsible communication materials, waste sorting and recycling, use of reusable materials, and promotion of soft mobility. This environmental commitment is at the heart of the festival's identity, which seeks to reconcile celebration with respect for the Alpine territory.
The Kaya association, founded in 2005 and based in Embrun, is the driving force behind the Trad'in Festival. Rooted in a multidisciplinary approach, it offers music lessons, workshops, and masterclasses throughout the year, and also organizes the Panorama Tour, a traveling festival. Kaya positions itself as a bridge between culture, territory, and the public, fostering connections between generations and allowing traditions to live on in a vibrant contemporaneity.
