The oldest music festival in the Hautes-Alpes
Created in 1987, Musique en Dévoluy is the oldest music festival in the Hautes-Alpes. Every summer, seven concerts are programmed in the Romanesque chapel of Mère-Église, an 11th-century building nestled in the heart of the Dévoluy massif. The festival offers a musical journey through countries, styles, and eras: classical music, gypsy jazz, tango, world music, and French songs follow one another in an exceptional heritage setting.
Founded in 1987, Musique en Dévoluy is the oldest music festival in the Hautes-Alpes department. Supported by the Association Les Amis de Mère Église, this summer festival offers a series of seven concerts each year in a historic location: the Romanesque chapel of Mère-Église, an 11th-century building located in the heart of the Dévoluy massif, at an altitude of 1,300 meters.
The programming of Musique en Dévoluy is distinguished by its eclecticism. Each edition takes the audience on a journey through countries, styles, and eras. You can discover gypsy jazz, Argentine tango, Occitan music, French songs, classical music, world music, and Mediterranean music. The 2025 edition (39th) notably featured Minor Swing (gypsy jazz quartet), Filomen (Belgian trio), the Ensemble Armenonville (tango quartet), Legendari (Occitan music), the Duo Ourika (Mediterranean cellos), the Quatuor A'dam (vocal French songs), and the Ensemble Les Semeuses (lyrical music).
The chapel of Mère-Église is the soul of the festival. This 11th-century Romanesque building, carefully restored, offers remarkable acoustics and an intimate atmosphere conducive to musical listening. Located in the commune of Dévoluy, the chapel is accessible by a short walking path from the parking lot, inviting spectators to a walk in the heart of nature before each concert.
In 2026, Musique en Dévoluy celebrates its 40th edition, an exceptional anniversary for this festival that remains true to its mission of bringing music to life in the mountains. To mark this event, a special program is planned around Mère-Église on August 6th, with a guided tour, exhibition, and festive activities. Seven concerts will be offered from July 16th to August 20th, 2026.
