Pastoralism in the spotlight in the heart of Grenoble
The Festival International du Film Pastoralismes et Grands Espaces is a unique event that bridges documentary cinema and the world of pastoralism. Since its creation, this festival organized by the Fédération des Alpages de l'Isère invites the public to discover the realities of pastoralism, the lives of shepherds and breeders, and the beauty of wide-open spaces through the lens of the 7th art.
Documentary films from around the world
Each edition offers a rigorous selection of international documentary films, grouped into thematic sessions. The subjects covered are varied: transmission of know-how and traditions, portraits of shepherdesses and shepherds, herd protection, the age-old practice of transhumance, and contemporary challenges of pastoralism in the face of climatic and societal issues. Screenings take place at the Cinéma Le Club, an art-house cinema in Grenoble.
A festival village on Place Victor Hugo
In addition to the screenings, a festival village is set up on Place Victor Hugo in the heart of Grenoble. This space, open to all, allows visitors to meet passionate actors of pastoralism, discover products from the alpine pastures, participate in workshops, and enjoy photographic and artistic exhibitions. It is a privileged meeting place between the rural world and the urban public.
A commitment to the territory
The festival is more than just a cultural event; it is a tool for raising awareness about the issues of pastoralism and the mountains. By highlighting the work of breeders and shepherds who keep the alpine pastures alive, it helps to promote a living heritage that is essential for maintaining mountain landscapes, biodiversity, and the local economy. The support of numerous institutional and associative partners testifies to the importance of this initiative.
