The 100% family festival of the Hautes-Alpes
Created in 2013, the Potes de Marmot's festival was born from a desire to offer a quality cultural event dedicated to families in the Hautes-Alpes. The first initiative of its kind in the department, the festival unfolds each summer over three days between the fortress of Mont-Dauphin and the spaces of Guillestre, in the majestic setting of the Guillestrois-Queyras mountains.
The festival's program is designed to amaze young and old alike. The circus shows, dance performances, street theater, concerts, and processions are adapted for all audiences, with specific offerings for toddlers from 2 years old. Nearly 60 artists and companies perform each edition, offering a diversity of artistic forms that delights the approximately 5,000 festival-goers welcomed each year.
Since its creation, Potes de Marmot's has placed ecology at the heart of its project. The pedal-powered mechanical rides, powered by the energy of the children themselves, illustrate this fun and responsible philosophy. The festival raises awareness among young audiences about reducing their environmental footprint and protecting nature, in a joyful and participatory spirit. Griotte, the festival's mischievous marmot mascot, accompanies families throughout the days and poses for the traditional souvenir photo.
Beyond the shows, the festival offers numerous creative and fun workshops for families: DIY, visual arts, manual activities, and nature discoveries. The treetop adventure course at Mont-Dauphin allows the more adventurous to soar through the trees of the Vauban citadel. Each day is designed to group shows suitable for the same age, making it easier for families to organize. The 14th edition in 2026 promises more surprises in Mont-Dauphin and Guillestre.
The 14th edition of the Potes de Marmot's youth festival will take place from Tuesday, August 18th to Thursday, August 20th, 2026, in the Hautes-Alpes, between the villages of Mont-Dauphin and Guillestre. "THE 100% family festival" of the valley offers shows, workshops, games, and concerts to discover the mountains differently, as a family, through culture and play.
The Potes de Marmot's festival takes over two emblematic villages of the Guillestrois-Queyras: the fortified town of Mont-Dauphin, a UNESCO World Heritage site (in partnership with the Centre des monuments nationaux), on Tuesday, August 18th, then Guillestre on Wednesday, August 19th and Thursday, August 20th, 2026.
The program blends street theater, immersive and aerial shows, object and puppet theater, circus, musical strolls through the alleys, and concerts. As for workshops, children can learn about alpine nature (the "P'tits Montagnards" workshop), awaken their senses (the "Traces et Empreintes" workshop), get their faces painted, make flower crowns, or play wooden games and participate in a parent-powered carousel. The event concludes with a concert in Guillestre.
Nestled between the Écrins and Queyras massifs, at an altitude of approximately 1,000 m, this summer event is an invitation to enjoy the villages and the mountains as a family.
The festival takes place in Guillestre and at the fortress of Mont-Dauphin in the Hautes-Alpes.
