About La Beholle

La Béholle is a multisport event held every year in early September by Les Loups de Belrupt, the Saint-Symphorien mountain bike club, at the Rozelier airfield base in Sommedieue, near Verdun. The routes wind through the forests, trenches, bunkers, and destroyed villages of the 1916 battlefields.

Saturday is dedicated to trail running, featuring two timed races of 10 and 20 km, plus two youth races of 1 and 3 km. On Sunday, six mountain bike circuits ranging from 15 to 85 km, three gravel routes, three road cycling routes, and three hiking trails all depart from the same base. The French Cycling Federation classifies the event as a "Randos d'Or"; the previous edition drew over 2,000 participants.

2026 Edition — Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th

The Loups de Belrupt, members of the Saint-Symphorien mountain bike club, are organizing the 34th Béholle on the weekend of September 5th and 6th, 2026, at the Rozelier airfield base. Registration has been open since July 1st and is capped at 2,500 participants; the organizers reserve the right to close the site without notice once this limit is reached. Last year, over 2,000 people took to the starting line.

The two Saturday trail runs are timed. All Sunday events are non-competitive hikes and rides: no timing, no rankings.

La Béholle: A multisport adventure on the Verdun battlefields

The "Loups et Louves de Belrupt" (the wolves of Belrupt), members of the Saint-Symphorien mountain bike club, organize La Béholle at the Rozelier airfield in Sommedieue, near Verdun. The 34th edition will take place on September 5th and 6th, 2026. The routes traverse forests scarred by trenches and shell craters, as well as bunkers, military fortifications, and the villages destroyed during the 1916 battle: all nine of the Great War's destroyed villages are included on the long 110 km gravel loop.

Saturday: Trail running

Two timed courses—20 km with 575m of elevation gain and 10 km with 275m—start in the late afternoon from the airfield. They are followed by two youth races of 1 and 3 km.

Sunday: Mountain biking, gravel, road cycling, and hiking

Six mountain bike circuits (15 to 85 km), three gravel circuits (45, 65, and 110 km), three road circuits (60, 90, and 120 km), and three hikes (10, 15, and 20 km) depart from the base between 7:45 AM and 10:00 AM. These are non-competitive leisure rides with no timing or rankings. The 45 km gravel route is new for 2026 and is designed for beginners and hybrid bike users.

At the base camp

The airfield features a partner village, a BMX track for children, bike testing, scooters, a live band, and paid catering services. Registration includes a raffle ticket, with the grand prize being a bike worth €1,990. Changing rooms, showers, toilets, and high-pressure bike wash stations are available on-site.

A "Randos d'Or" label

The French Cycling Federation has awarded La Béholle its "Randos d'Or" label. Throughout the rest of the year, the circuits remain accessible via the "Verdun – Le Rozelier" FFC mountain bike site.
