Who Got the Flower ?! : the international hip-hop event of the Grésivaudan
Since its creation in 2014 by the Nextape collective, the Who Got the Flower ?! festival has established itself as one of the biggest European hip-hop festivals. Born from the passion of a group of high school students from Pontcharra for dance, the Nextape association, founded in 2010, has given birth to a unique event that combines international breaking competition, artistic creation, and conviviality in the heart of the Grésivaudan valley.
A festival rooted in nature and hip-hop culture
Who Got the Flower ?! stands out for its unique identity: "a friendly, open festival, close to nature, close to simple things, and terribly hip-hop". The event takes place at the Espace culturel Le Coléo in Pontcharra, between the Belledonne mountains and the Chartreuse massif, offering an exceptional natural setting for an urban culture festival. This alliance between nature and urbanity is the originality of WGTF.
A format spread from February to May
The festival adopts an original format that extends over several months. It begins in February with the Breaking Camp, an intensive three-day training course dedicated to the training and improvement of dancers. The main festival takes place in May over three days, with international battles, shows, workshops, and a free-access hip-hop village.
The battles: the beating heart of the festival
Dance competitions are the cornerstone of the festival. The main 4 against 4 breaking battle attracts teams from all over the world, with qualifications followed by spectacular finals. The festival also offers footwork battles, junior competitions (Flower Jam), and innovative formats that renew the genre.
Shows and creations
Beyond the battles, Who Got the Flower ?! programs choreographic shows like The Silence, collaborative performances (The Colab), and creations that explore the boundaries of contemporary hip-hop dance. These artistic proposals broaden the perspective on breaking and urban cultures.
Workshops and transmission
The festival places great importance on transmission with breaking and dance workshops, as well as original botanical workshops that strengthen the link between urban culture and nature. Conferences and meetings complete the educational program.
International reach
Who Got the Flower ?! has acquired international stature, welcoming over 3,200 festival-goers, 300 dancers representing 16 nationalities over three days during its 2022 edition. The Flower's Tour, a free annual traveling event, extends the festival's spirit into rural areas of the territory.
Nextape: passion serving the community
The Nextape association, founded on February 18, 2010, in Pontcharra by a group of high school students, is the driving force behind the festival. Beyond organizing WGTF, Nextape offers breakdance classes in the Grésivaudan valley, school interventions, a summer Summer Camp, and touring choreographic creations. This strong local presence anchors the festival in the social and cultural fabric of the region.
