Fête de la Musique across Corsica this Sunday, as the Taravo festival opens

Music Day in Ajaccio and Bastia, the opening of the Taravo Festival, village feasts and craft beer: seven very real Corsican events on June 20 and 21.

This weekend of June 20-21, 2026, Corsica tips firmly into summer. And for good reason: on Sunday June 21, it's the Fête de la Musique, France's nationwide Music Day, filling Ajaccio and Bastia alike, from the south to Upper Corsica. But the island isn't only about the open stages of its two main cities. The same Sunday sees the opening of the Taravo Festival in the hinterland, while the eastern plain launches the Festa di a Nuciola and several villages revive their patron-saint feasts. Our advice: use Saturday for the traditional festivals and the sailing in Saint-Florent, then switch to music on Sunday. Here are the seven very real events shaping this first true summer weekend on the island.

A weekend in two acts: traditions on Saturday, music on Sunday

The split falls almost too neatly. Saturday June 20 belongs to village feasts and Mediterranean sailing; Sunday 21, the longest day of the year, is wholly given over to the Fête de la Musique, paired with the opening of two festivals in the backcountry. Plenty to choose from by mood, between the south and the north of the island.

Ajaccio Music Day (Sunday June 21)

For its 30th edition, Ajaccio's Fête de la Musique takes over the quays, squares and lanes of the imperial city on Sunday June 21. Founded in 1997, it has become the city's great free musical rendezvous: amateur and professional stages share the centre, from Corsican polyphony to local rock bands, brass ensembles and seafront DJ sets. It's the perfect excuse to wander Ajaccio at dusk, when the heat fades and music rises from every street corner. A family classic by day, more festive by night: you move freely from one stage to the next. Ideal for a first summer evening in the Gulf of Ajaccio.

Bastia Music Day (Sunday June 21)

Heading north for the other big Sunday event. The Bastia Fête de la Musique celebrates its 55th edition in 2026 — about as established as it gets. On June 21, Place Saint-Nicolas, the Old Port and the town's terraces host a patchwork of free concerts. Bastia has always nurtured its music scene, and the evening readily blends contemporary music, jazz and Corsican repertoire. The atmosphere of the Old Port after dark, between the colourful façades and the fishing boats, is part of the setting. If you're in Upper Corsica this Sunday, this is the town to be in: everything happens outdoors, on foot, from one stage to the next.

Taravo Festival, Petreto-Bicchisano (June 21-25)

In the hinterland of South Corsica, the Taravo Festival raises the curtain on Sunday June 21 and runs through the 25th. Founded in 2012, it celebrates its 15th edition this year, faithful to its Taravo valley. The line-up blends music and culture, with a genuine desire to root the event in the life of the village of Petreto-Bicchisano rather than chase the summer mass audience. You come for the mountain atmosphere, far from the seaside bustle, and for a more intimate discovery of inland Corsica. Sunday's opening night sets the tone for the week. A fine gateway for anyone wanting to extend the weekend in the Taravo.

Festa di a Nuciola, Cervione (June 20-24)

Gastronomy takes over on the eastern plain from Saturday June 20 with the Festa di a Nuciola, in Cervione, Upper Corsica. Founded in 1993, this hazelnut festival marks its 34th edition. Over several days, the village celebrates this emblematic fruit of the Casinca and neighbouring Castagniccia, through a producers' market, tastings, craft stalls and street entertainment. It's the archetype of a Corsican terroir festival: you taste the local produce, you meet the growers, and you take your time. Saturday is a good day to visit with the family, before the afternoon heat, a stone's throw from the eastern coast.

Giraglia Rolex Cup, Saint-Florent (until June 20)

Last day this Saturday for one of the great classics of Mediterranean sailing. The Giraglia Rolex Cup, founded in 1953, wraps up its programme on June 20 around Saint-Florent and Cap Corse. The regatta owes its name to the rocky islet of La Giraglia, off the cape, which the fleet rounds during the offshore race. While the course traditionally links Saint-Tropez to Corsica, it's under the colours of the Gulf of Saint-Florent that the island leg unfolds. For the visitor, it's a chance to admire a fleet of prestigious yachts in a spectacular setting. Catch it on Saturday, before the boats weigh anchor.

Craft Beer Festival, Ajaccio (June 21-22)

A different mood in Ajaccio on Sunday June 21 with the Craft Beer Festival, launched in 2017 and now an eagerly awaited city event. Island brewers and tasting stalls gather around Corsican beers, whose local production has boomed in recent years. On the programme: discovering the island's hops, meeting the craft brewers, and food on site in a convivial atmosphere. It's the perfect complement to the Fête de la Musique the same day: tasting in the afternoon, concerts in the evening, all without leaving central Ajaccio. A relaxed format, for beer lovers and the curious alike.

Vescovato Feast (June 21-23)

To round off this island tour, head to the Casinca with the Vescovato Feast, which opens on Sunday June 21 for its 43rd edition. Founded in 1984, this patron-saint feast brings the village together around its traditional celebration: procession, mass, shared meals and entertainment pace these days of community reunion. Perched above the eastern plain, Vescovato offers a fine view over the coast and a glimpse of village Corsica far from the tourist circuits. For the visitor, it's a rare window onto the life of a Casinca town, its traditions and its hospitality. A detour that pairs well with a day spent around Cervione.

If you stay longer: the Polyphonic Thursdays of Bonifacio

No concert this exact weekend, but worth flagging for anyone staying on the island: the Polyphonic Thursdays of Bonifacio programme a concert every Thursday evening from April to October in the Saint-Dominique church of the Haute-Ville. The next one falls on Thursday June 25. Around thirty evenings per season, renowned island polyphonic groups (Una Fiara Nova, L'Alba, A Filetta…) and the acoustics of a 13th-century Dominican church: it's one of the best entry points into Corsican polyphony in a traditional setting, away from the crowded summer festivals.

Wrap-up

Here is a Corsican weekend with two faces: traditions and grand sailing on Saturday, in Cervione and Saint-Florent, then the Fête de la Musique everywhere on Sunday, in Ajaccio and Bastia, paired with the opening of the Taravo Festival, the Ajaccio craft beer fair and the Vescovato feast. Seven very real events, spread across both departments, to celebrate the longest day of the year. Staying longer or looking for other ideas?
