4 unmissable festivals in Morbihan over the May 8-10, 2026 weekend

From the fest-noz in Cleguerec to early-music concerts in the chapels of Erdeven, with extreme metal in Saint-Nolff and a geek convention in Lanester thrown in: four picks that capture the cultural range of Morbihan this weekend.

Three public-holiday days in southern Brittany, a mild spring and a programme that spans almost the full cultural spectrum: over the 8 to 10 May 2026 weekend, Morbihan offers four very different events spread across four corners of the departement. Central Brittany comes alive for a long-running fest-noz, the southern coast hosts a new early-music festival in its chapels, the Vannes area welcomes an extreme-metal festival in a rural setting, and the Lorient conurbation turns into a pop-culture HQ. Here is how to plan your weekend.

1. Festival de Kleg: three days of fest-noz at the heart of central Brittany

If you only had to pick one event, this would probably be it. The Festival de Kleg returns to Cleguerec from Thursday 7 to Saturday 9 May for an edition that is closing in on four decades of existence. Run by the En Arwen association, this gathering of traditional music gets central Brittany dancing with around twenty groups on the bill, a bagad, concerts and fest-noz nights that go on until the small hours.

The Kleg spirit is one of cross-pollination: Breton music in all its forms rubs shoulders with sounds from elsewhere that engage with tradition. A show for younger audiences also features in the schedule, making the festival a viable option both for seasoned dancers and for curious families. Free for under-15s. See the festival page.

2. Re-Animator Festival: metal and hardcore in the open air at Saint-Nolff

Heading east to Saint-Nolff, the Re-Animator Festival holds its 3rd edition from Thursday 7 to Saturday 9 May at the Vieux-Moulin site, a stone's throw from Kerboulard. Born in 2024 in the wake of the Motocultor, the festival has quickly established itself as a sharp meeting point for fans of extreme metal, hardcore and punk.

This year's lineup includes acts such as Madball, The Exploited, Corvus Corax, Gama Bomb, Sun, Horskh and Une Misere. About thirty bands in total play across two stages over three days, in a deliberately convivial atmosphere and a rural Breton setting. On-site camping is free and entry is free for under-12s, with a discounted rate for under-18s. See the festival page.

3. Festival des Chapelles d'Erdeven: early music inside Romanesque jewels

A complete change of mood comes with the Festival des Chapelles d'Erdeven, which is just kicking off its 2026 run. Created in 2018 by the Les Voix Buissonnieres ensemble, this festival of early, classical and traditional music stretches all the way to the end of August, but the journey starts on this 8 May weekend.

The concept is simple and effective: professional musicians give concerts inside Romanesque chapels, gardens and heritage venues across the village. Baroque, contemporary, sacred and folk repertoires follow one another in a centuries-old setting, with affordable tickets (6 to 16 euros) and free entry for under-18s. The festival also runs singing workshops and meet-the-artist sessions for those who want to extend the experience beyond a simple concert. See the festival page.

4. Geek Life Lorient: pop culture takes over Lanester

To round off the weekend, head for Lanester and the Parc des Expositions, which on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 May hosts the 2nd edition of Geek Life Lorient. Across nearly 3,000 square metres, the convention brings together exhibitors, artists, YouTubers, cosplayers and fans around geek, manga, anime, video-game, cosplay and K-pop cultures.

Highlights include a national Geek Life Cosplay Contest, a retro-gaming area for revisiting the classics, signing sessions and a dedicated space for younger visitors. Created in 2025, the event has become in just one edition the reference gathering for pop culture in Morbihan. Tickets are sold online at geeklife.fr, with one-day or two-day passes depending on your pace. See the festival page.

To sum up

Four radically different worlds, four corners of the departement: central Brittany for living tradition, the Vannes area for metal energy, the southern coast for early music in chapels, and the Lorient conurbation for pop culture. Plenty of material to build a custom weekend, whether you are travelling solo, as a couple, with family or with friends. To explore more upcoming events, take a look at all the festivals in Morbihan.
