A church, voices, nothing else. In Ajaccio, on Rue du Cardinal Fesch, the In Cantu ensemble sings until Monday 31 August. Events and festivals in Corsica this weekend of 29 and 30 August 2026 stretch from those a cappella evenings to the season-closing dates of Propriano, Bastelica, Calvi and Porto-Vecchio.

Corsican polyphony at the San Ruchellu church

Since 2 August, the Chants Polyphoniques In Cantu cycle has taken over the San Ruchellu church, known as Petit Saint-Roch, on Rue du Cardinal Fesch in Ajaccio. A full month of a cappella Corsican polyphony closes on Monday 31 August: the evenings of 29-30/08 are among the very last of the run.

Not one instrument on stage.

The repertoire is entirely vocal, split between two registers. Sacred music first, with the masses of Sermanu, Rusiu and Sartène. Then the profane side, paghjelle above all. The ensemble brings together singers from well-known Corsican groups and from the opera world, between island tradition and concert technique.

The concerts are given in the intimacy of the church, a few steps from the singers, far from the big open-air stages of the summer.

Classic sails in Propriano, books in Calvi

In Propriano, the Corsica Classic lines up its sailing boats from 23 to 31 August: created in 2001, the sailing event marks its 26th edition in 2026 and covers the whole weekend. On the Quai Pascal Paoli in Porto-Vecchio, Un Été au Théâtre keeps its open-air theatre season going until 3 September, a summer fixture the I Chjachjaroni company has run at the Usine à liège since 1983, mixing repertoire plays, new writing and shows for young audiences.

Saturday 29, two closing days.

In Corse-du-Sud, the Foire de Bastelica wraps up five days of local produce and country fair that day, a 13th edition for an event born in 2014. In Calvi, in Haute-Corse, the Calvi Book Festival closes its 26th edition the same Saturday, five days of literature first held in 2001.

Of the five dates on this weekend's card, only the Porto-Vecchio stage carries on into September, through Thursday the 3rd.
