Five days of rock in the park at Saint-Cloud
Created in 2003, Rock en Seine tops the weekend bill. From 26 to 30 August, the festival spreads its stages across the historic grounds of the Domaine national de Saint-Cloud, 460 hectares along the Seine, west of the capital.
One hundred thousand festival-goers, and then some.
That is the crowd the event tops every year across its five days, a scale that puts it among the largest rock and independent music festivals in Europe. The big names of rock, electro and international pop follow one another on stage, in a natural and heritage setting few events of this size can claim.
The 2026 edition ends on this weekend. Closing day falls on Sunday, at the end of the 29-30/08 stretch, before the stages come down for a year; the festival has held this late-August slot since 2003, and no other event in the region plays at this scale.
Candles in Maincy, jazz at La Villette
Paris's 19th arrondissement hosts two openings from 28 August. Jazz à la Villette starts around ten days of concerts between the Philharmonie de Paris, the Cité de la Musique and the Grande Halle, from jazz and soul to funk and hip-hop. The Festival Silhouette, the biggest free open-air short film festival in the capital, opens each evening at the Butte du Chapeau Rouge park with a concert by an emerging Île-de-France act before two hours of screenings.
Two châteaux stretch their summer out. In Maincy, the Candlelit Evenings of Vaux-le-Vicomte light up the château and André Le Nôtre's gardens with 2,000 candles on Saturday night, a ritual kept every Saturday since 1980. In Versailles, the Grandes Eaux Musicales set the fountains playing to the baroque music of Lully, Rameau, Charpentier and Gluck, a tradition inherited from Louis XIV and the 1660s.
The south of the region lines up three community-run events.
In Nemours, the Notown Festival wraps up five days of concerts, visual arts and workshops on the lawn of the Scène du Loing on Sunday, an independent venture carried by the MusiQafon association since 2000. In Thomery, the Au Bon Coin Festival brings circus, street theatre and concerts to the Parc de la Salle de la Plage until Sunday, with a stated family focus. In Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse, FestivAl'OUT rolls out three days of free music, theatre and workshops at the gates of the Chevreuse valley.
