On 22-23 August 2026, festivals across Nouvelle-Aquitaine fill twelve departments: Saint-Palais-sur-Mer ends three free nights of progressive rock, Chauvigny turns medieval, Brive brings 600 farm animals into the town centre.

On the Esplanade du Concié, in Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, Festival Crescendo plays its third and final night on Saturday. Events and village fêtes spread across the region, from the island of Vassivière to the arenas of Mimizan.
Three nights of progressive rock facing the Atlantic
The Esplanade du Concié looks straight out to sea, in Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, and Festival Crescendo takes it over from 20 to 22 August. Three nights of concerts, no box office, an organisation run from end to end by volunteers: the principle has not moved since the first edition, in 1999.

Progressive rock, progressive metal, psychedelic rock, classical music and jazz fusion share the bill. On that repertoire Crescendo ranks among the most important gatherings in Europe, and it has stayed free throughout, which is unusual at this size.
Between 3,000 and 4,000 people fill the esplanade each evening. Twenty-seven years after it started, the festival keeps the same formula: free entry, a stage facing the ocean, the last week of August.
Across the three nights, that puts attendance between nine and twelve thousand, in a Charente-Maritime town whose seafront esplanade doubles as a concert hall.

Storytelling on Vassivière, historic Formula 1 in the Creuse
On the island of Vassivière, the Festival Paroles de Conteurs opens on Saturday 22 with a week of more than 80 gatherings, from nap-time tales to traditional evening sessions, thirty-one years after it was created during the draining of the lake.
