Electronic music festival in Saint-Étienne
The 1001 Bass Music Festival is an electronic music festival founded in 2012 in Saint-Étienne by the association 1001 Bass, active since 2005 in promoting electronic cultures between Lyon and Saint-Étienne. Every autumn, for three days in October, the festival takes over Le Fil (SMAC) and the Palais des Spectacles with an ambitious program exploring techno, trance, house, electro, minimal, progressive, drum and bass, and hardcore. With its five stages, immersive scenographies (video mapping, visual decorations by Fluofreax and Vizual Invaders), exhibitions, screenings, and workshops, 1001 Bass brings together nearly 3,000 festival-goers per edition and has established itself as a must-attend event on the electronic scene in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
The association 1001 Bass has been working since 2005 to support, develop, and promote creations from electronic music in Saint-Étienne, Lyon, Aubenas, and throughout the Rhône-Alpes region. Building on this expertise, it launched the first edition of the 1001 Bass Music Festival in 2012, a three-day event dedicated to urban and electronic music, spanning Lyon and Saint-Étienne.
The festival is held at Le Fil, a certified contemporary music venue (SMAC) located at 20 boulevard Thiers in Saint-Étienne, whose two rooms (a main hall with 1,260 seats and a Club with 300 seats) offer an ideal setting for electronic nights. The Palais des Spectacles, at 31 boulevard Jules Janin, complements the setup with its larger capacity, allowing the festival to deploy up to five stages simultaneously and host around forty artists per edition.
The artistic direction of 1001 Bass explores all facets of electronic music: powerful techno, hypnotic trance and psytrance, groovy house, energetic electro, contemplative minimal and progressive, drum and bass, acid, hardtek, and hardcore. Each evening is themed around a musical genre — hip-hop and electro on Thursday, techno and acid on Friday, psytrance and hardcore on Saturday — offering a complete introductory journey. Over the years, the festival has hosted leading artists such as I Hate Models, Boris Brejcha, Vitalic, Astrix, Miss Kittin, Oxia, Chinese Man, Ajja, Bambounou, Zadig, Lucy, Julian Jeweil, Dusty Kid, Joachim Pastor, Chris Liberator, 999999999, Umwelt, Hilight Tribe, Darktek, and Mandragora.
The 1001 Bass Music Festival goes beyond concerts to offer a complete immersive experience. Spectacular visual scenographies — video mapping, fluorescent decorations, and light installations by Fluofreax, Vizual Invaders, and T2O — transform the venues into true sensory universes. The festival also features craft stalls, food trucks, exhibitions, screenings, and workshops on electronic cultures. The association is committed to risk prevention and accessible pricing to open electronic culture to the widest possible audience.
Rooted in Saint-Étienne but reaching across the Loire and the Lyon metropolitan area, the 1001 Bass Music Festival actively participates in the cultural and nightlife dynamics of the Saint-Étienne metropolis. In addition to the annual festival, the 1001 Bass association organizes themed evenings throughout the year — Acid vs Psytrance, Hardcore vs Techno — at Le Fil and other venues in the region, helping to make Saint-Étienne a major hub for electronic music in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
2026 edition of the 1001 Bass Music Festival in Saint-Étienne. Three days of electronic music at Le Fil (SMAC) and the Palais des Spectacles with five stages. Techno, trance, house, electro, acid, minimal, progressive, drum and bass, and hardcore. Immersive scenographies, video mapping, exhibitions, and workshops.
The 1001 Bass Music Festival returns from October 15 to 17, 2026, at Le Fil (SMAC) and the Palais des Spectacles in Saint-Étienne for a new three-day edition dedicated to electronic music. Since its creation in 2012, the festival, driven by the 1001 Bass association, has continuously grown, establishing itself as a must-attend event on the electronic scene between the Loire and Rhône regions.
True to its proven formula of five stages and around forty artists, the 2026 edition will feature three themed evenings exploring the multiple facets of electronic music: an opening blending hip-hop and electro on Thursday, a techno and acid night on Friday, and a psytrance and hardcore closing on Saturday. The immersive scenographies — video mapping, visual decorations, and light installations — will once again transform the venues into unique sensory experiences.
Beyond the musical lineup, the festival will offer exhibitions, screenings, and workshops on electronic cultures, as well as craft stalls and food trucks. The full program and ticketing information will be announced on the official website 1001bass.net during the summer of 2026.
