Afriques en Vision is a festival of African and diaspora cinemas supported by the Institut des Afriques in Bordeaux, with screenings decentralized in several towns in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, including Mont-de-Marsan. Created in 2021, this annual festival offers a demanding program of new and unique African films at the end of November: feature films, documentaries, and short films, with directors present. In Mont-de-Marsan, screenings are held at the Théâtre de Gascogne - Cinéma Le Molière, offering the local audience a unique window into the richness and diversity of African cinema.
The Afriques en Vision festival is a cinematic event dedicated to African and diaspora cinemas, organized annually at the end of November by the Institut des Afriques (IdAf) in Bordeaux, with decentralized screenings in several towns in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Mont-de-Marsan is one of the partner towns hosting screenings as part of this festival.
The festival offers a rigorous selection of African films: feature films, documentaries, and short films, often unreleased in France or presented in regional premieres. The program highlights the diversity of cinemas from the African continent and its diasporas, from sub-Saharan productions to Maghrebi films, as well as works from Afro-European and Afro-American diasporas.
Afriques en Vision was born from the collaboration between several major cultural players: the Institut des Afriques (IdAf, Bordeaux), Cinéma Utopia (Bordeaux), Doc'A (Nairobi), FIDADOC (Agadir), the Diana'T African Diaspora Chair (Bordeaux), and the magazine Africiné (Dakar). This international network guarantees a selection of films of great artistic and thematic quality.
In Mont-de-Marsan, Afriques en Vision screenings take place at the Théâtre de Gascogne - Cinéma Le Molière, in partnership with the local cultural structure. Decentralized screenings allow the local audience to discover films they wouldn't otherwise have the chance to see, often with directors present for discussions after the screening.
Since its creation in 2021, the festival has experienced remarkable growth. The 5th edition in 2025 attracted nearly 2,500 spectators across all partner towns, confirming the public's appetite for African cinema. The festival now extends to six towns: Bordeaux, Paris, Poitiers, Mont-de-Marsan, Blanquefort, Blaye, and Cadillac.
