All Star Perche: When Clermont-Ferrand Becomes the World Capital of Pole Vault
It all began in 2016 when two pole vault legends, Sergey Bubka and Renaud Lavillenie, decided to create a new international meeting in Clermont-Ferrand. This project was born in response to the disappearance of the annual Pole Vault Stars meeting in Donetsk, made impossible by the war in Donbas. Lavillenie, a local and former world indoor record holder (6.16m in 2014), naturally chose his adopted city to establish this new global pole vault event.
A Meteoric Rise
From its very first edition on February 25, 2016, the meeting stood out for the quality of its athletes. Renaud Lavillenie won this inaugural edition with a jump of 6.02m, the second-best world indoor performance that year. Greece's Konstantinos Filippidis set a national record of 5.84m, while Venezuela's Robeilys Peinado broke her country's record at 4.53m.
Since then, All Star Perche has continued to grow, becoming part of the World Athletics Indoor Tour and attracting the biggest names in the sport worldwide. The meeting has become a must-attend event on the international circuit at the start of the indoor season.
The Stage for World Records
The Maison des Sports in Clermont-Ferrand has become the venue for all the great achievements. Sweden's Armand “Mondo” Duplantis has set several world records here:
- 2023: world record of 6.22m
- 2025: 11th world record of 6.27m, during the 10th edition of the meeting
These historic performances have propelled All Star Perche into the ranks of the most prestigious meetings in the world, alongside major international competitions.
The Maison des Sports: A Gem for Pole Vault
The Maison des Sports in Clermont-Ferrand, located on Place des Bughes, offers an intimate and warm setting that contributes to the unique atmosphere of the meeting. With a capacity of around 3,000 seats, the venue allows for exceptional proximity between the public and the athletes, creating an electric atmosphere that pushes pole vaulters to new heights.
A Meeting Rooted in its Territory
All Star Perche is more than just a sporting event; it's a true spectacle that combines athletic performance, light shows, and a festive atmosphere. The event contributes to the international recognition of Clermont-Ferrand and the Auvergne region, attracting media and enthusiasts from around the world.
