Grand carnival parade in the historic center of Rennes
The Carnaval de Rennes is a major festive event that animates the historic center of the Breton capital every year in March. This colorful carnival parade brings together thousands of costumed participants and spectators in a joyful and friendly atmosphere.
The carnival procession follows an emblematic route through Rennes: starting from the Thabor park, passing through the historic city center to the Place de la Mairie, and ending at Place Sainte-Anne. Throughout the route, brass bands and batucadas set the rhythm of the festive march.
Several local orchestras participate in the procession, including the Bagad de Cesson-Sévigné, the Tambours du Maracatu, Takadidoum Batucada, Toucouleurs, and AC Balata de Vern-sur-Seiche. This musical diversity creates a unique and lively sound atmosphere.
Since 2025, the Carnaval de Rennes has offered a costume party at the Salle de la Cité after the parade, with a DJ set and live concert. This nocturnal extension reinforces the festive nature of the event and extends the party until the end of the night.
The 4th edition of Carnaval de Rennes will take place in March 2026 with a parade in the historic center.
