The second oldest film festival in France
Since 1959, the Ciné-Rencontres de Prades has been a major summer event for art-house cinema in France. The second oldest film festival in the country after Cannes, this event is part of a tradition of disseminating and sharing auteur cinema at the foot of the Canigou.
For a week in July, the Le Lido cinema in Prades—an air-conditioned 180-seat theater—hosts an ambitious program: retrospectives of major filmmakers, previews of recent films, discoveries of emerging works, and exclusive Q&A sessions with guest directors. Among the recent guest filmmakers: Stéphane Brizé, Emmanuel Mouret, and Claire Burger.
Each year, about twenty short films are selected to compete for the Bernard Jubard Audience Award, an award given by audience vote. This competition highlights contemporary creation and offers a showcase for young film talents.
Four open-air cinema evenings under the stars are offered in Prades, Ria, and Campôme, providing a unique cinematic experience in the exceptional setting of Conflent. The festival also offers art-house screenings throughout the year and film education programs.
