Outdoor short film evenings in the Cévennes
Organized by the CinÉco association, an itinerant cinema in the Cévennes founded in 1983, the Open-Air Short Film Nights offer outdoor screening evenings every summer in the villages of Lozère. On the Place au Beurre in Florac and in other authentic locations, the public discovers over four hours of short films selected by volunteers, mixing dreams, travel, laughter, and emotion under the Cévennes stars.
Every summer, the CinÉco association sets up its outdoor screens in the villages of Lozère's Cévennes to offer the public a unique cinematic experience: the Open-Air Short Film Nights. On the Place au Beurre in Florac, but also in other towns in the area, these screening evenings transform village squares into open-air cinemas, set against authentic natural and heritage backdrops.
The Short Film Nights offer a meticulous selection of short films, chosen by CinÉco's volunteer teams from their favorites of the year. Each evening features over four hours of screenings, punctuated by convivial breaks, inviting spectators to dream, travel, thrill, and laugh through the films. The program mixes animation, fiction, documentary, and experimental films, with particular attention paid to works sensitive to the environment and ecology, true to the association's spirit.
The evening begins at 7 PM with a program dedicated to young audiences, allowing families to share a cinematic moment suitable for the youngest. At 8 PM, the Culture et Loisirs association offers light catering and a refreshment stand. The general public program then starts at 9:30 PM and continues late into the night.
Founded in 1983, CinÉco (Ciné for cinema, Co for collective) is France's oldest itinerant cinema association. Born from the passion of a few film enthusiasts based in the heart of the Cévennes, it now organizes screenings in over 60 villages between Lozère and Gard. Labeled Art et Essai (Art and Essay cinema), the association programs and screens around 70 films per year during approximately 500 sessions, supported by four employees and a network of 120 volunteers.
The Open-Air Short Film Nights have become one of the highlights of CinÉco's summer programming. They embody the association's spirit: making cinema accessible in the most isolated rural areas, fostering discovery and sharing around the seventh art.
The organizers invite the public to bring deckchairs and blankets to comfortably enjoy the night screenings. In case of rain, the sessions are moved to the La Genette Verte hall, 33 avenue Jean Monestier in Florac-Trois-Rivières, ensuring the event takes place regardless of weather conditions.
The Open-Air Short Film Nights are more than just a cinema screening: they are a moment of sharing and conviviality in the heart of the Cévennes summer, where the magic of cinema blends with the beauty of the landscapes and the warmth of village life.
