Cinémovida: A Window onto Hispanic Cinema in Cherbourg

Since 1991, Cinémovida has opened a window onto Hispanic cultures in the heart of Cotentin every winter. Organized by the association La Mancha (Norman friendship movement for Hispanic-American culture), this film festival has become an essential cultural event in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, offering Spanish and Latin American films in their original version with subtitles for three weeks.

A Demanding Film Program

Each edition highlights a country or a filmmaker from the Spanish-speaking world. The 35th edition in 2025 paid tribute to the Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar, with the screening of three of his cult films at CGR Odéon, accompanied by a conference by Nicolas Boscher, a specialist in Spanish cinema. The 36th edition in 2026 is mainly dedicated to Argentina. The films are systematically presented in their original Spanish version with French subtitles.

Much More Than a Film Festival

Cinémovida is not limited to screenings. The festival offers a complete program of cultural events: conferences on Hispanic history and culture, exhibitions by Spanish and Latin American artists, Iberian and Latin American music concerts, and meetings with directors and actors. The association La Mancha works in coordination with the CGR Odéon cinema, the city of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, the Regional Council, and the Atout Lire association.

A Cultural Bridge Between Normandy and the Hispanic World

The association La Mancha, founded in 1983, aims to promote access for the inhabitants of Nord-Cotentin to Hispanic culture. Cinémovida is its flagship event, but the association also organizes cultural, linguistic, and artistic activities related to Spain and Latin America throughout the year. This cultural mediation work, carried out for over thirty years, makes Cinémovida a unique festival in Normandy.
