The Cité en Musique Festival is a series of free open-air concerts that enlivens the medieval city of Domfront-en-Poiraie every Wednesday evening in July and early August. Since 2015, this festival has offered concerts of French chanson, rock, rap, and festive music in the squares and streets of the historic city. Each week, a different artist or group takes over an emblematic location in Domfront, offering residents and visitors convivial and free musical evenings in an exceptional heritage setting.
Since 2015, the Cité en Musique festival has brought a summer musical touch to the medieval city of Domfront-en-Poiraie. Every Wednesday evening in July and early August, a free open-air concert enlivens one of the city's historic squares, creating a regular and anticipated event for residents and summer visitors.
The originality of Cité en Musique lies in the choice to occupy a different location in the medieval city each week. Place du Général de Gaulle, Place Saint-Julien, the Tribunal parking lot, and other emblematic spaces successively become open-air concert stages, offering a unique musical experience enhanced by Domfront's architectural heritage.
The Cité en Musique program embraces a wide diversity of musical styles: French chanson, rock, rap, and spoken word, festive music, and variety. The 2025 edition, celebrating the festival's 10th anniversary, hosted La Gapette (rock French chanson), Bois Vert (rap/spoken word), Tarmac, Bélozidé, Lupo, and Joe Sature, offering a different show each week.
All Cité en Musique concerts are completely free, in line with the desire to make culture accessible to as many people as possible. This free access allows families, tourists, and residents to enjoy quality musical evenings in the exceptional setting of the medieval city.
The festival also includes a show for young audiences on Wednesday afternoons, allowing families to enjoy a complete program combining entertainment for children during the day and a concert for everyone in the evening.
