The gastronomic celebration of August 15th with over 350 varieties of potatoes
Every August 15th, the village of Crevant celebrates the potato with a festival organized by the Amicale de Crevant, on Place Jean Moulin. The program includes: a flower park presenting over 350 varieties of potatoes, dahlias, fuchsias, and cannas, a parade of vintage tractors at 11 am, potato cake and peeling contests, tastings of potato cakes and pies, a popular dance, and fireworks. Since 1989, this unique festival has attracted thousands of visitors.
The Crevant Potato Festival is one of the most original gastronomic events in the Indre department. Every August 15th, the small village of Crevant, nestled in the Creuse Valley, celebrates the king of tubers with a popular festival organized by the Amicale de Crevant. Since its first edition in 1989, this festival has grown to become a must-attend event that attracts thousands of visitors to Place Jean Moulin.
The jewel of the festival is the Louis Laurent flower park, which showcases over 350 varieties of potatoes from around the world. This living and colorful conservatory allows visitors to discover the incredible diversity of this tuber from Peru: shapes, colors, sizes, and textures vary from one variety to another. The park also exhibits collections of dahlias, fuchsias, and cannas, creating a true ephemeral botanical garden that delights gardening and horticulture enthusiasts.
At 11:00 am, the grand tractor parade goes through the village to the applause of the public. Each year, a historic brand is honored: Deutz, Renault, Massey Ferguson, John Deere, and many others parade through the streets. Tractors from yesterday and today are presented, accompanied by carefully restored vintage agricultural equipment by enthusiasts. This parade highlights the importance of the potato in Berry's agriculture and pays tribute to the farming world.
The festival offers numerous activities centered around the potato. The potato cake contest rewards the best recipes. Visitors compete in fun challenges: the longest peel, the tallest potato pyramid, kilos peeled in 3 minutes, the biggest potato, and the funniest potato. The sale of artisanal potato cakes and pies delights food lovers throughout the day.
On-site catering offers moules-frites (mussels and fries) and merguez sausages, accompanied by a well-stocked bar. In the afternoon, musical entertainment and shows are scheduled on the stage of Place Jean Moulin. For children, a "Patate en Folie" pedal tractor circuit, sack races, and games complete the program. The evening culminates with a popular dance starting at 8:30 pm and fireworks at 10:30 pm. Festival admission is free.
