An exceptional castle for a medieval festival
The Château du Magnet, located in Mers-sur-Indre in the heart of Berry, is a remarkable setting for this medieval festival. Built in the 16th century on the remains of a medieval fortress, it retains its two imposing towers and high roofs overlooking a vast green park. Once the home of the famous dancer Céleste Mogador, it was also the setting for George Sand's novel La Mare au diable.
Activities for all ages
For two days, the castle transforms into a true medieval village. Visitors can wander among the stalls of the medieval market, watch artisans at work — blacksmiths, potters, weavers — and witness sword fighting demonstrations and jousting. Musicians in period costume entertain visitors in the park with medieval melodies played on ancient instruments.
Historical reenactments and encampments
Reenactment groups set up their encampments in the castle park, allowing visitors to discover daily life in the Middle Ages: medieval cooking, craft techniques, armor and equipment of knights. Children are not left out with workshops specially designed for them: archery initiation, calligraphy, coat of arms creation.
A remarkable heritage setting
Beyond the activities, the festival is an opportunity to discover the architectural heritage of the castle and its outbuildings. The Magnet estate, steeped in history since the 13th century, offers a dive into the history of Berry, from feudalism to the glorious Renaissance period. The lordship of Magnet was successively owned by the Naillac, Genouillac, and La Châtre families before being extensively restored in the 19th century.
Gastronomy and conviviality
Food stalls offer dishes inspired by medieval cuisine and local Berry products. The friendly atmosphere, with strolls in the park and open-air shows, makes this festival a must-attend event for history enthusiasts and families seeking discovery.
