Blois's winter festival: illuminations, shows, and Christmas magic
Des Lyres d'Hiver is the winter festival of the city of Blois, transforming the royal city into a magical place from late November to early January. The program combines artistic light installations, a Christmas village at the foot of the castle, an ice rink, a Ferris wheel, street performances, an opening parade, and concerts. Created to liven up the city during the holiday season, the festival offers free, family-friendly activities in the city center and neighborhoods, with a spotlight on Blois's heritage that delights visitors. Des Lyres d'Hiver naturally complements Des Lyres d'Été to offer Blois residents a festive calendar throughout the year.
Des Lyres d'Hiver is the winter festival of the city of Blois. From late November to early January, the royal city transforms into an enchanted place, combining artistic illuminations, shows, family activities, and a Christmas market in an exceptional heritage setting in the heart of the Loire Valley.
The festival begins with the launch of the illuminations in late November, marking the start of the festive season. Artistic light installations take over the city, such as the "Chromatic Dreams" at the Royal Château of Blois in 2025, creating a magical trail through the city center. Sparkling fir trees, garlands, and luminous decorations adorn the squares and streets of Blois.
A Christmas village is set up at the foot of the castle, on Place du Château, with its chalets offering crafts, gifts, and seasonal specialties. The Place de la République hosts an outdoor ice rink, while a Ferris wheel stands on Place de la Résistance, offering an exceptional panorama of the city and the Loire River. A carousel and a Christmas train complete the attractions for families.
The festival offers a rich program of street performances and family activities. The opening parade, led by a performing arts company, inaugurates the festivities in early December, parading through the city center. Concerts, notably for Valentine's Day at the château, extend the festive season until February.
Access to the illuminations, the Christmas village, and most of the activities is free. The ice rink, Ferris wheel, and carousel are accessible at modest prices. The festival is for all audiences, from toddlers to seniors, with activities designed for each age group.
The Blois-Chambord station is served by TER Centre-Val de Loire and Intercités trains from Paris-Austerlitz (approx. 1h30). The festival venues are a 10-15 minute walk from the station.
