Theatre and music festival at the Vieux-Château du Neubourg
Created in 2022 by Compagnie Asphalte, "Et pop ! au château" is a theatre and music festival that takes place every September in the gardens and orchards of the Vieux-Château du Neubourg, during the European Heritage Days. This multidisciplinary festival builds bridges between historical heritage and contemporary creation, offering theatrical performances, concerts, poetic improvisations, exhibitions, and free activities in a historic setting.
"Et pop ! au château" is a unique festival that brings together historical heritage and contemporary creation in the heart of the Vieux-Château du Neubourg. Created in 2022 by Compagnie Asphalte, a theatre company founded in 2004, this festival is held annually in September for the European Heritage and Matrimony Days, taking over the gardens, orchards, and spaces of the feudal castle.
The Vieux-Château du Neubourg is a remarkable feudal site marked by the creation in 1660 of the opera-ballet "La Toison d'Or" by Pierre Corneille, commissioned by the Marquis de Sourdéac, owner of the castle and a lover of theatrical machinery. This historical link between the place and the performing arts is the common thread of the festival, which continues this tradition of artistic innovation.
The festival offers a rich and varied program, focused on theatre and music:
The festival's ambition is to create bridges between learned and popular culture, between rural heritage and artistic creation, between history and contemporaneity. The performances question our relationship with the living, nature, agricultural and rural heritage, in a spirit of openness and sharing. The festival also highlights Norman linen, a symbolic textile fiber of the region, through scenographic creations and artistic residencies.
Compagnie Asphalte, founded in 2004 and directed by Aline César, is a theatre, music, and digital arts company based in Le Neubourg. Its artistic work explores the intersections between theatrical, musical, and visual forms, with a particular focus on the links between heritage and creation. The company initiated this festival, which anchors its cultural action in the Pays du Neubourg region.
Performances in the gardens are offered at full price €10 / reduced price €5. A 3-day festival pass is available for €15 (full) / €10 (reduced). Impromptus and activities in the orchard are free access. Children under 8 are free.
