The Féria du Novillo is the major festive event in Hagetmau, a commune of 4,500 inhabitants nestled in the heart of Chalosse, in the south of the Landes. Every year, in early August, this small town transforms for four days and five nights into a place of celebration and taurine traditions, attracting thousands of festival-goers from across the department and beyond.
A Strong Taurine Tradition
The very name of the festival, "Novillo" (young bull in Spanish), testifies to the taurine roots of this fair. The arena program offers a complete range of bullfighting shows:
- A novillada with picadors, the weekend's main event
- A novillada without picadors, more accessible and family-friendly
- A cockade contest, a test of skill between the raseteurs and the bulls
- A Landes race, showcasing traditional écarteurs and sauteurs

Getting to Hagetmau
By Car
Hagetmau is located 30 km south of Mont-de-Marsan and 40 km east of Dax, accessible via the D933 and the D2. Free parking is available on the outskirts of the town center, notably at the Parking du lac de la Cité and the Parking du stade. Some streets in the center are closed to traffic during the festivities, and a specific traffic plan is in place.
By Public Transport
XL'R bus lines connect Hagetmau to Mont-de-Marsan, Dax, and Orthez. Information from the departmental network at 09 70 87 04 00.
Festival Venues
The festivities are concentrated in the town center of Hagetmau, with taurine shows at the municipal bullrings. Bodegas and street entertainment are set up in the main streets and central squares, particularly around the Place de la République. The funfair is located near the bullrings with numerous rides and attractions for all ages.
Schedule
Activities begin in the late morning and continue late into the night. The cockade contest opens the festivities on Friday evening. The novilladas take place on Saturday and Sunday in the late afternoon. Children's Day is scheduled for Monday. The Landes race concludes the taurine program on Tuesday evening. Main concerts are held each evening on the open-air stages.

Access to street entertainment, concerts, and bandas is free. Taurine shows in the bullrings are paid:
- Cockade contest: €8
- Novillada without picadors: €15
- Novillada with picadors: €23 to €49 depending on seating
- Landes race: €20 (€5 for members)
- Youth card (under 12 and students): €20
Food and Drink
The bodegas and estanquets offer traditional Landes and Chalosse cuisine: foie gras, magret, confit, Chalosse beef, Tursan cheeses and wines. Fast food stands are located around the funfair. Popular meals offer a convivial moment to share around local gastronomy.
