The taurine and festive fair of Hagetmau in the heart of Chalosse
The Féria du Novillo is the great annual festival of Hagetmau, a small town in Chalosse, Landes. For four days and five nights in early August, the town lives to the rhythm of bandas, bullfighting shows, and festive animations. Novilladas with and without picadors, Landes races, cockade contests, open-air concerts, float parades, children's activities, and fireworks make up a rich program that makes Hagetmau one of the most popular fairs in the Landes.
The Féria du Novillo is the major festive event in Hagetmau, a commune of 4,500 inhabitants nestled in the heart of Chalosse, in the south of the Landes. Every year, in early August, this small town transforms for four days and five nights into a place of celebration and taurine traditions, attracting thousands of festival-goers from across the department and beyond.
The very name of the festival, "Novillo" (young bull in Spanish), testifies to the taurine roots of this fair. The arena program offers a complete range of bullfighting shows:
Beyond the bullrings, the Féria du Novillo is above all a great popular festival. Bandas constantly roam the streets, creating a festive and lively musical atmosphere. Bodegas and estanquets offer food and conviviality. The parade of decorated floats is one of the visual highlights of the festival, bringing together associations and residents in a colorful and joyful procession.

The Féria du Novillo embodies the festive spirit of Chalosse, this hilly region of the Landes known for its gastronomy (foie gras, Chalosse beef, Tursan wines), its taurine traditions, and its art of living. Hagetmau, a town known for its "siègeois" (chair and furniture industry), also knows how to be a capital of celebration, true to the Gascon motto that celebrates courage, flair, and conviviality.
Hagetmau is located 30 km south of Mont-de-Marsan and 40 km east of Dax, accessible via the D933 and the D2. Free parking is available on the outskirts of the town center, notably at the Parking du lac de la Cité and the Parking du stade. Some streets in the center are closed to traffic during the festivities, and a specific traffic plan is in place.

The festivities are concentrated in the town center of Hagetmau, with taurine shows at the municipal bullrings. Bodegas and street entertainment are set up in the main streets and central squares, particularly around the Place de la République. The funfair is located near the bullrings with numerous rides and attractions for all ages.
Activities begin in the late morning and continue late into the night. The cockade contest opens the festivities on Friday evening. The novilladas take place on Saturday and Sunday in the late afternoon. Children's Day is scheduled for Monday. The Landes race concludes the taurine program on Tuesday evening. Main concerts are held each evening on the open-air stages.
