Classical and chamber music festival in Senlis
The Festival Convergences Musicales is a classical and chamber music festival created by violist Jean-Baptiste Souchon in partnership with the city of Senlis. In the spring, over several days, intimate concerts take place in the heritage sites of the royal city, notably the priory of Saint-Maurice and the Ordener riding school.
The Festival Convergences Musicales was born from the passion of Jean-Baptiste Souchon, an internationally renowned violist from the Oise region, trained at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris and the MDW in Vienna. In partnership with the city of Senlis, he created this festival to fulfill a deep dream: to share his love of music with the inhabitants of his hometown.
The concerts take place in remarkable heritage sites in Senlis: the Prieuré Saint-Maurice, a former religious building offering intimate acoustics ideal for chamber music, and the Manège Ordener, a vast military space converted into a performance hall. These exceptional settings contribute to the unique atmosphere of the festival.
The festival offers chamber music concerts, recitals, and orchestral performances with leading ensembles. The Ensemble Daphnis, the Quatuor Métamorphoses, and the Orchestre des Forces Majeures conducted by Raphaël Merlin are among the invited ensembles. The program combines the great masterpieces of the repertoire with more daring and contemporary proposals.
The festival includes a significant educational component with masterclasses at the Senlis municipal conservatory and interventions in schools. These encounters allow students to interact with professional musicians, discover their art, and immerse themselves in the world of classical music.
One of the festival's highlights is the musical walk through the streets of Senlis, where music springs up in unexpected places in the city, creating moments of surprise and wonder for walkers and residents.
