About La Fosse-à-Vaches

The Festival de la Fosse-à-Vaches is a musical and festive event born from the initiative of the inhabitants of Ville-en-Blaisois, a small village in Haute-Marne nestled between hills and pastures. Every summer, the hamlet comes alive to the rhythm of folk concerts, French chanson, and traditional music, in the bucolic setting of a former rehabilitated farm. Conceived as a village festival open to all, the festival celebrates rural conviviality and musical discovery, favoring regional artists and emerging talents from the Grand Est region.

The origins of a village festival like no other

The Festival de la Fosse-à-Vaches was born from a joke between farmers on a rainy autumn evening in the early 2020s. The idea was simple: to organize a concert in the farmyard of the place called La Fosse-à-Vaches, a former communal meadow where herds once drank. What was supposed to be a one-off event between neighbors quickly became an anticipated gathering, driven by a handful of volunteers passionate about music and local events. The name of the festival, borrowed from the historical toponym, remained as a nod to the agricultural identity of the territory.

A rural and authentic setting

The festival takes place on the site of a restored old farm, in the heart of the village of Ville-en-Blaisois. The main stage is set up in the paved courtyard, while a second acoustic stage is located under the barn's porch. Festival-goers enjoy a green environment, with orchards, shared vegetable gardens, and meadows, offering a breathtaking view of the Blaisois champenois hills. The entire site is designed in a rustic and eco-responsible spirit, with decorations made from recycled agricultural materials.

A program rooted in local music

The programming of the Festival de la Fosse-à-Vaches favors acoustic music, folk, French chanson, and traditional repertoires. Each edition hosts about ten artists, mainly from the regional scene of the Grand Est, but also traveling musicians and folk dance groups. Concerts alternate with instrument-making workshops, traditional dance initiations, and storytelling evenings, in a warm and participatory atmosphere. The festival gives a special place to young talents and musical projects supported by local associations.

Conviviality, local produce, and associative spirit

Beyond the music, the Festival de la Fosse-à-Vaches celebrates the Haut-Marnais rural art of living. A local producers' market offers cheeses, charcuterie, honey, and local wines, while rustic meals are served under marquees. Admission is free, and volunteers from the organizing association, Les Amis de la Fosse, ensure the welcome, catering, and entertainment with infectious enthusiasm. The festival is supported by the municipality of Ville-en-Blaisois and the department of Haute-Marne, who see it as a lever for cultural revitalization in rural areas.
