Classical, Baroque, and Romantic Music Festival in Richelieu
Founded on the initiative of pianist Nicolas Boyer, the Festival de Musique de Richelieu hosts international classical, baroque, and romantic music talents every summer in the exceptional setting of the Cardinal's city. For two weeks in July-August, concerts take place in historic venues—the Dome of the Richelieu park, the collegiate church of Faye-la-Vineuse, and surrounding chapels and castles—offering an eclectic program ranging from Vivaldi's Four Seasons to Schubert's trios, Offenbach's operettas to piano recitals, in a friendly and intimate atmosphere.
The Festival de Musique de Richelieu is an unmissable summer event for music lovers in southern Touraine. Born from the passion of pianist Nicolas Boyer (Nicolas Boyer-Lehmann), this festival offers a program of classical, baroque, and romantic music each year in the unique architectural setting of Richelieu, a jewel of 17th-century urbanism created by Cardinal de Richelieu.
The town of Richelieu, classified among the most beautiful 17th-century architectural ensembles in France, offers an exceptional setting for a classical music festival. The Dome of the Richelieu park, a vestige of the Cardinal's lavish gardens, the collegiate church of Faye-la-Vineuse, and the chapels and castles of southern Touraine serve as stages for the concerts, combining the beauty of the locations with quality acoustics.
The festival is distinguished by the variety of its programming, which spans several centuries of music:
The festival hosts internationally renowned musicians as well as promising young talents, in a spirit of discovery and transmission. The Orchestre des Jeunes du Centre has notably participated in several editions, providing a platform for young instrumentalists from the region.
